When Lily Gladstone took the stage Sunday night to accept her first Golden Globe, she spoke to the live TV audience in the Blackfeet language.
“This is a historic win,” she said, becoming the Globes’ first Indigenous winner of best actress in a drama. “This is for every little rez kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream, who is seeing themselves represented and our stories told — by ourselves, in our own words — with tremendous allies and tremendous trust from and with each other.”
Gladstone, 37, won for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” In the film, her character’s family was murdered in a reign of terror in which the Osage were targeted for the headrights to their oil-rich land in Oklahoma.
In the audience, co-star Leonardo DiCaprio wore a pin in solidarity.

That’s pretty cool. I’m glad to see more indigenous representation in films and TV these days. I haven’t seen Killers of the Flower Moon, but Reservation Dogs and Prey were both amazing.
Take the time to watch it when you can. It’s long but captivating from begining to end and loaded with amazing performances. Great music and beautifully shot as well.
Such a sad series of events. Minorities just can’t catch a break without being screwed over.
I will eventually. I just generally don’t go to movie theaters anymore, so I wait until it comes out for home viewing.
And for a 3h20 movie, home viewing makes even more sense.
Whole not dealing with native cultures, Echo looks like it is going to be pretty damn good.
She was awesome in Killers of the Flower Moon. An absolutely spectacular performance and a well deserved award.
Over ten years ago as a student, I sold tickets for plays and concerts at the University of Montana and got some comp tickets to a play that she was in. She’s very talented and I’m glad to see that she won!
Good achievement for Lily. Glad to see.
i heard the movie was boring
It was. But her performance was amazing.
