Things like this will increase in frequency as long as the culture war is seen as a viable strategy by the right wing. We’ve worked hard to make this country more accepting, we can’t let it slip back.
the culture war
What is the culture war?
In this context it’s the Tories and their media supporters complaining and villianising everything progressive in society to appeal to their older voter base who remember it all being so good until these “woke lot” turned up.
“woke lot”
Who are they?
Basically anyone who is measured greater than “Ignored” on the “Are you hated by the daily Mail” test - https://www.tomscott.com/usvsth3m/are-you-hated-by-the-daily-mail/
Whoever the right wing press is going after that week.
I think it’s when you single out one group of people that you dislike and pin everything that you don’t like in life on them. Often it will be met with support from like minded people. Kinda football team mentality - my team is better than your team.
For example:
- You don’t think like me you’re a Tory toff.
- You don’t think like me you’re a Brexitier.
- You don’t think like me you must be a transphobe.
- You don’t think like me you must want to privatise the NHS.
- You don’t think like me you must be a communist.
That sorta thing.
