I feel like there was a moment of indecision between flooring it in reverse, and flooring it going forward, and in that moment, both options became unavailable.
In my first watch I didn’t notice the driver exiting the truck and I thought he decided to be a good captain and go down with the ship.
So many things wrong here. The slope is too great. The barge is not secured to the shore. The driver only used his trailer brakes to stop, but should have used the brakes on his tractor and trailer together. This means that the weight of tractor and trailer was pushing the barge away from the bank. The captain of the barge should have been ready to provide a counter-force to avoid being pushed off the bank.
Gotta love the comedic timing of that loot drop.
I didn’t see the driver get out?
I didn’t either at first, but he hops out early at about 0:18.
Dispatch would have safety calling me with a cup already in hand ready to piss in…
Would love to know the full story here, it almost seems like they knew this was going to fail.

Driver gets out very quickly, likely was prepared to make a quick exit from the vehicle.
NOONE REACTS. Seriously, people move away from it, but typically in situations like this, there’s a ton of yelling and moving around. But once the driver was out and safe, there’s hardly anything from the crowd.If anyone knows the full story and can link to it, please do!

It didn’t start moving deliberately. The trailer has brakes, so when the driver of the semi tried to stop, it actually started pushing the barge.
This is why boats are moored to the land/dock. Motion onto a boat imparts motion into the boat. Walking onto (going from land onto a floating vessel) a boat makes the boat move in the same direction the person walking onto it is moving. For a person, the smallness imparts a very little amount of motion. For a massive truck carrying a load, it will impart motion that can actually launch the vessel.
There has to be a counter force to pull the boat back to land anytime something moves onto the boat. That’s what mooring the boat does. The motion being imparted into the boat is then placed onto the lines holding the boat to land. If the motion is strong enough to break the lines, the boat will come free but if not, then the motion is imparted into the mooring posts. Depending on their construction, they’ll either give way or disperse the motion into the ground.
If you’ve ever canoed, the boat is super small, so the sheer act of just getting into the canoe starts making it move in the direction you entered the canoe. Which is one of the reasons folks usually get everything into the canoe on land and then have someone launch the canoe from land.
Oh for God’s sake, you can see the trucking screaming for help and its last breath.
