A fantastic finale to end a show that exceeded every single one of my expectations this season. This whole episode I had a big stupid grin on my face. I don’t really get the mechanics of how Bravern or Superbia came back to life, or how Smith is back, or how everything became gold, or lots of other things…but man, I loved every second of it. Who cares if it doesn’t make sense, it was hype as hell. This whole show operates on children’s cartoon logic, so strong emotions repairing a robot is just par for the course.
One of my favorite gags this episode was the overuse of the picture in picture effects. I don’t know if that is the right name for it, but it resulted in hilarious sequences where the screen just gets so cluttered and the different talking heads are fighting over space on the screen:
I am really sad that Superbia seems to have passed on to the great robot beyond. May your dream be fulfilled in the next robot life. o7
Finally, the show had one final cheesy gag for us to end this season: a sing-along! That’s right, you too can sing along with the opening song over the end credits. They even include furigana over all the kanji just like a children’s piece of media would have (young children’s media would be all hiragana, but having furigana is the next step). I will absolutely miss this show and all the crazy fun I had along the way.
I actually liked the bit where Isami tries surrendering to the seemingly-victorious Deathdrives.
It’s the logical thing to do, but at the same time by super robot show logic, the wrong thing.
Of course, emotion and passion defeat cruelty and power like they do in real life /s
But Bravern and Superbia-sword vanishing into stardust(?) at the end was touching.
Indeed, who cares about the logic of any of it? Random, wonderful shtuff happened!
One thing I hope they don’t do is S2.
This was a nice story, complete in itself.
Not the best show I ever saw, but one that I enjoy the most, especially in recent memory.
All that cliché, the cheesy and horny jokes. Super Sayajin hair, Ultraman “grow up”… Everything was delivered perfectly and balanced.
The child inside me was jumping with joy every minute of the episode. God knows I needed this anime.
