For people wondering what the difference is:
- Telling the bank your property is worth a lot and simultaneously telling your state it’s worth nothing is lying and a crime (Trump)
- Selling your property for more than the state thinks it’s worth is just good business (John Stewart)
Also only one of these guys is running for president.
Like, let’s say John Stewart did everything he’s saying Trump did. Okay, cool, I won’t vote for him to be president either.
If Jon Stewart was even remotely doing what Trump did is also be clamoring for his indictment and standing trial.
I have never told the state what my properties are worth, they have always told me their accessed value and I can try to dispute that number if I want to. Am I missing something here?
Do you run a commercial / residential building in Manhattan? Your 3 br 2 ba house is easy to value from known records and prior sales. They probably don’t even visit it.
Every large building on Manhattan is different. The state asseses it themselves but also assumes building owners are not lying in their records. Some well placed lies can easily save millions in taxes. That’s what Trump did.
States apparently don’t do property assessments?
I think they can and do, but not always super detailed.
Stop comparing apples to orange men.
Can’t serve him anything. It’s a water-glue type situation.
I was waiting for this.
When I saw the story, I saw the obvious differences between the two, and thought about writing a post about it, then actually thought essentially word-for-word, “I’m sure if I wait, Jon’ll say everything I might say, and better.”
And he did, and he did.
You wish and Jon delivers. Please wish him to the White House.
He won’t take a job in politics. He’s said in multiple interviews that he feels he can do more good work where he is, and that politics would force him to compromise his beliefs.
Don’t need his consent to put him on the ballot, I’m pretty sure.
Sometimes I wonder if people like Tim Poole are aware that they’re full of shit.
They don’t care
They are grifters, so long as it gets traction it’s a win.
I’m sure there are people like Tim Poole who realize, but I’m not convinced he’s capable of that level of introspection.
When you’re s grifter it doesn’t matter if you’re aware, as long as your viewers aren’t. They’re in it for the money and they will say whatever engages their viewers.
They have to be. They couldn’t be so consistently incorrect on accident.
Dear internet, I’m writing this question from my $6.8 billion dollar palace… please define the word “overvalued”. Does it include gold gilding by chance?
I don’t care. Absolutely, positively do not care, make Jon Stewart president.
