hi im aen
idk how or why i made this account 8 months ago, because i only discovered lemmy after the third party app thing happened
anyway my hobby is reading history and speculative fiction, also i lurk a lot because you all make me feel dumb (this is a compliment)
that’s it tbh, im pretty boring and i don’t know what else to say… drop your favourite books in the comments
Have you read Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series? I haven’t read the books but I’m really enjoying the show
Book series bears little resemblance to the tv show
Ah well, I should have expected that
it’s a series i’ve been meaning to get around to eventually! also haven’t watched the show, but i’ll check it out if i ever finish the books
Hi aen! The you from eight months ago made a gift for the you today. Welcome :)
My favourite book is The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro. Honestly I think the less you know about if before going in the better. I just read the blurb before starting and that’s it.
I love his work in general, so if you start with any of his other novels it’s hard to go wrong. Never Let Me Go is probably one of his better known novels, more cut and dry sci fi that was turned into a movie, you may have read/watched it?
thanks for the suggestions! i’ve never read any of his work or watched that movie, so all of those are going on my list 🙂
Fave book is John Steinbeck’s East of eden. Love it to death, along with other of his novels.
Welcome!
oh yeah i’ve heard that his books are good, i’ll have to get around to reading them someday
thanks!
A sci-fi fan?
It’s hard to pinpoint a specific book but I’d say Keşanlı Ali Destanı because of how Haldun Taner manages to combine aspects of classic Turkish stories, modern life in Turkey and ancient Greek plays. The big mistakes of bad Turkish writers boil down to replicating either Western stories or traditional Turkish ones without any attempts to reconcile them, in my opinion.
that sounds fascinating! i’ll definitely check it out
