Welcome again to everybody! Make yourself at home. In the time-honoured tradition of our Order of CPC Shills™, here is our weekly discussion thread!

Short reading list for new MLs here. To find theory, try marxists.org, Anna’s Archive, libgen, or Sci-Hub (for scientific articles). If an article is unavailable, try the Wayback Machine.
Why are there so many libs on lemmygrad now, they weren’t here before.
they’re mostly users from other instances who sort by “All” instead of “Local” and occasionally come across posts on Lemmygrad
Our party posted an article/interview with Tings Chak about how China lifted 800 million people out of poverty. I think it’s the first interview in Dutch I’ve read about it and I’m spamming it to everyone I know.
The article is accompanied by a map of Asia with US allies and military bases highlighted, completed with an overview of US military spending, titled ‘How the US is besieging China’. I like the kind of out of the blue agressive stance the party is taking right now.
Defecting from North Korea is now harder

Flagged comments are the treasure here. Cannot believe people fall for this shit
Just saw a video titled Settler Colonialism in Vietnam.
What a ridiculous assertion, and the video is what you’d expect.
Youtube testing my patience rn.
I can’t even imagine what kind of mental gymnastics would be needed to argue that modern Vietnam is a settler colony
It’s even worse. They are saying 800 CE to 1700 CE Vietnam is a settler colony lol, therefore removing the role of Capitalism in spreading settler-colonialism from it’s origins in Europe.
One of our officials asked for sanctions against Israel stating it was possible real fast when Russia started the war against Ukraine and his mic was turned off 😭😭😭
I never understood the obsession with fireworks here in the United States. They’re only amusing for a few seconds… the first couple of times that you’ve seen them… and after that they’re just annoying. People light fireworks starting a week or two before the fourth of July, and sometimes the day afterwards, and it only pauses during nighttime.
The stink and all of the litter that they cause is almost nauseating. I’m lucky that I don’t suffer from battle fatigue, because then these nuisances would be truly insufferable.
Im not USian at all and i love them, im sorry
I feel you. I do like the pretty colors of them when I can actually see them and some shows are pretty neat in how they put the colors together, but I only find the noise tolerable in that context (which is usually at more of a distance) and most fireworks set off casually or in a context where I can’t even see them just end up feeling like I’m surrounded by loud noises I don’t want to hear. People also set them off at any and every hour in my experience, and any and every day that is near the 4th and sometimes other holidays too. 😐 It would prob be more tolerable if there was like an hour during which everybody did it and then it’s done.
They were going on here untill 12:32
I wondered if I was the minority on this, because I haven’t really cared for them for a long time.
You mention the stink, what do they smell like? Is it like a gun powder smell, and is it only when they’re set off really close by or can you smell them from kinda far away? I have a problem with my nose which makes me almost completely nose blind and didn’t know fireworks smelled until just now.
I’ve never smelled gun powder, but if I had to describe the stench it would be kind of like burning paper, only maybe more putrid; it’s definitely smoky. I can smell it at medium distances; it’s less noticeable than the smell of a bonfire.
Posted a news article on the Dutch socialist subreddit about the Dutch government wanting to acknowledge to holodomor as a genocide and ehhhhh it started a discussion to say the least
Anyone have good resources (reading and groups) for ML in the UK? The current state of the country makes me not want to even try.
First time I’ve ever seen a “-1 comments” lol
why are there lot of downvotes on here?
probably from other instances
My husband has been extra nice to me, and I got a new job.
Congratulations on your new job Comrade!
return to Malaysia for a 1 month visit after living in the U.S. for the last four years
go back to the places I remember going to
return to a famous seaside which I visited frequently
find out that that seaside had been ruined by a land reclamation project
mfw
What’s a land reclamation project?
I’ve been reading some of the suggested reading from hakim’s list, and also watching videos from second thought, and I just feel so angry with the system. What do we do? What should I do? Can we do anything?
Depends on various circumstances, perhaps most importantly where you live (particularly imperial core vs. periphery). If there’s a solid Marxist (ideally Marxist-Leninist) party/organization (with a focus on both theory and praxis, not electoralism) nearby, you can try joining that. If not, I’d recommend just continuing to read theory for the time being (ideally with others), particularly that which is relevant to your country or wider region
Unfortunately right in the old imperial core. There are some country wide ml groups, but it just doesn’t feel enough.
there are probably people here from your country who can give you some tips, especially if you’re in one of the bigger countries
does anyone know if this is true or not? https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/world/asia-pacific/20230623-118053/
japanese trying to deflect fukushima dumping
If it’s true, they’re deflecting and missing the point of the criticism.
I am under the impression that tritium discharge isn’t a huge deal. But that’s not what the Fukushima water problem is about.
Chinese media have been reporting for months if not years that TEPCO and Japanese authorities don’t even know what other radioisotopes are in the Fukushima waste water and at which concentrations. The filters used aren’t appropriate and only certain isotopes are even tested for.
