It worries me that this is basically the weekend mindset of most people. We have limited time, and resources, so we’re trying to get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of as little money as possible. That means we rely on over-consumption of fatty/sugary snacks, over consumption of media in the forms of TV/internet, and the over consumption of intoxicating substances to heighten the experience of the first two.

You’ll find no Netflix, Lemmy, or Weed on Maslows heirarchy of needs, and yet most of us rely solely on these things for enjoyment.

This weekend, set aside time for a healthy dopamine rush. Smoke while cleaning or gardening. Take a walk, talk to a friend, spend an hour on your favorite hobby. Don’t spend every weekend force-feeding yourself dopamine from unhealthy sources, make sure that you’re living your life, and not just mindlessly consuming in an effort to distract yourself from reality. Reality can be pretty great sometime, go outside and give it a try.

There’s a lot of validity to what you’ve said. If nothing else, self reflection is never a bad thing. Thanks for sharing.

Having said that- this ain’t no weekend thing. Weedtime is all day every day.

Everything in moderation, my friend. I live a decently fulfilling life, and I’m working on making it even more so. I also indulge in weekend vegetation sessions, because it is a genuinely awesome time that I look forward to. Relaxation is a good thing, especially with how miserable life is when we can’t do it.

Idk I feel like those three fit into the first three tiers easily. You’d be stretching for them for sure, but Netflix and Weed could be safety and psychological needs met. Lemmy is social. Sure there are better ways to fulfill those needs perhaps in healthier ways, but to say you won’t fill any needs via those things is wrong imo.
