  • Would these greys not have experimented with nuclear explosives and/or had nuclear incidents in their past? Surely they would look at us the same way we would look at the English and French hurling huge rocks at each other in the middle ages were we to time travel. There are plenty of reasons for intelligent life to skip past earth but I doubt a history of nuclear science is one of them.

Right, but if you read that link, you’ll see that that quote isn’t direct but instead a historians recollection of “words to that effect” from Ike. The following quote CAN be directly attributed to him:

I made the visit deliberately, in order to be in position to give first-hand evidence of these things if ever, in the future, there develops a tendency to charge these allegations merely to “propaganda.”

Similar story here, my youngest just graduated college. And apparently my family sat in front of one of his neighbors who I met later at the a house party. And he goes “I’m pretty sure I sat behind you at the ceremony. I sat down and the first thing I heard was ‘god bless those Australians, they took one look at a whole onion and said ‘I bet you we can fry that and Americans will eat it’’”

  • And this is where I absolutely will cross the aisle and agree with you. I obviously care for sport and think it can be massively beneficial. But I too see some of these smaller schools breaking their own back (and bank) trying to get some of that p5 football money. The school I am a fan of won’t even blink at a 7 or 8 figure bill for a sports complex upgrade, because they absolutely will make that money back. But the school I attended tried something similar (way smaller bill) and there was widespread outrage amongst the student population and rightfully so. This gets into that dick measuring contest I mentioned and I fully agree with you, that should not and can not be allowed to negatively impact academics. Sports are a net positive, but like all things not named heroin, they should be pursued in moderation.
