Ukraine for example is the US vs Russia/China. Afghanistan was the US vs Russia a few times. The whole point of fighting somewhere else is that fewer of your own civilians die.

Ukraine for example is the US vs Russia/China.
Afghanistan was the US vs Russia a few times.
