Is it still gonna be Fidel again?

Also, off-topic but I despise this thumbnail for many reasons.

I’m super torn over MrBeast’s charity. On one hand, he’s objectively doing a good thing but on the other hand, he’s such a soulless clout chaser and is clearly just doing this for brownie points that I can’t accept it.

    • Think of it this way: Although it’s great that a thousand people are able to finally listen, millions of people are still out there without funds to be able to regain their hearing. With the wealth MrBreast has, he could easily pull a Fidel Castro (or at the very least, get into politics and fund leftist politicians); but he doesn’t, and instead prefers to remain as being the court jester of Capitalism with his “wao i did a good deed today, praise me”-tier videos.

Although it was originally based of him to release a video of him taking action against transphobes, the fact that he deleted the video soon after even a modicum of “bAcKLaSh” came to him from it just goes to show what his beliefs really are. He’s not someone who wants to do good in the world for the sake of goodness or helping others as he’s claiming to do. He’s doing all this for attention. A lot of the stuff before he went down his “philanthropic” route were attention-grabby anyway.

10 hours of bible reading? 10 hours of counting numbers?

I mean it’s a great feat that he has the patience and perseverance to do all this for 10 hours, but tell me he wasn’t doing this to gain some kind of large viewership.

I always ask myself “would this person have done this if they weren’t planning on making a video about it?” It reminds me of that “wholesome homeless people” youtube trend in (I think) the mid-2010s where they would give someone on the street like $1000 and then “secretly” film the person to see if they went to go buy booze/drugs but then miraculously they would go in a store and come out with groceries and share with other people on the street while sad piano music played.

There were tons of videos doing this until people started realizing that it was set up and they told the person what to do beforehand. Like, is it good that some people on the street got fed? Sure. Was it done for the most cynical, self-promotional reasons? Definitely. Would those youtubers have done any of that shit if there wasn’t a camera around making sure all their viewers saw how charitable they were? Doubtful.

I remember an old h3h3 video (back before I found out they were reactionary garbage) where they reacted to someone handing out sandwiches on a street corner and when one of the people reached in for a sandwich too early the youtuber yelled “BACK OFF!!!” in a really rude way that demonstrated they didn’t actually give a shit about these people, they just wanted the perfect shot of them doing a good deed so they could milk it for views.
