MADRID, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Operators of rental e-scooters will have until Oct. 25 to remove all their mobility devices from the streets of Madrid, the mayor’s office said on Tuesday, following an outcry against reckless driving and chaotic parking by their users.
After withdrawing their licences last month, the mayor’s office said the three foreign operators - Lime, Dott and Tier Mobility - had failed to implement limits on their clients’ circulation or control their parking to regain the licences. Amsterdam-based Dott, Germany’s Tier Mobility and U.S.-based Lime, whose scooters are available via the Uber have around 2,000 e-scooters each throughout Madrid.

I’d rather have to deal with chaotic e-scooter parking than sit in traffic & deal with drivers in parking lots that cannot park properly.
Sad to see this happening.
Over here in Hamburg the scooter riding is not that much of a problem. Scooter parking is a complete mess, a lot of users block pavements and park like the assholes they are. And the companies don’t care.
Those companies need to control correct parking more and implement hefty fines on those idiots that park like idiots elsewise Hamburg may consider kicking the scooters out, too. And by the way: I suggest those scooters need to be parked on the parking slots for cars - ban them from the pavements at all.
The same thing happened in NYC… along with the dipshits riding in bike lanes, running pedestrians over and generally normalizing an absolute clusterfuck that’s going to take a generation to bring back into line.
After learning motorcycles, all I can say is that maybe scooters aren’t such a great idea. Rentals? Keep them to Class 2 E-bikes (MAXIMUM). Anything else? You need to understand that these things can hurt people and they are a privilege, not a right.

Wait, they’re not allowed in the bike-lane in NYC?
They’re meant to drive on the road or where?
Stand-up scooters are allowed (they’re also terrible because you can’t see past them, and their tiny wheels mean their riders are constantly swerving to avoid irregularities in the road surface).
Mopeds (what I was referring to) are absolutely not allowed in bike lanes, they must have full license plates and the drivers must be also licensed.
Tier needs you to take a picture when you park and has park zones. But I don’t know how to tell them which scooter was parked badly.
They don’t check the pics, that’s the joke. They simply couldn’t care less for all the dumb shit their customers are producing.
The cities should fine the companies for shitty parking, and they can pass the fines to the users if they feel like doing it. They’d have to look at the accelerometer log to ensure the scooter wasn’t moved after being parked. There’s an asshole in my area kicking all scooters over, and to catch them, cameras are needed.

As a private e-scooter rider, this is so frustrating, and I’ve witnessed first hand in my municipality how chaotic the rental program has been. At the same time, it’s unfair to punish people who actually use them to get to work or school and ride respectfully.
How much rental scooters cost in your area?
I uninstalled the app, but it was a set fee to unlock it, then a charge per minute.
Both providers offered multi day “passes”, but they seemed expensive. Basically, if you rent them a few times a week, it’s cheaper to buy one.
Does Madrid offer a public bicycle rental?
Yes bicimad
Looks like it judging by the picture.
