Hitler was charged with treason after the coup, allowed to publically present his worldview at the trial, sentenced to 5 years in prison and released after 9 months, in exchange for a vow to retire to private life and stay out of politics. These are the defendents at the trial. Notice they are allowed to carry their swords. This is a photo from inside the “prison”. Basically a sabbatical that gave Hitler street cred and time to write Mein Kampf Moral of the story: When fascists try a coup, you should probably stop cuddling them.
