        Edit: to be clear, I am aware of SCP, and kinda understand what it’s about. I am open to not just an explanation of this comic but a broad explanation of SCP in general.

          In the SCP universe, D-Class personnel (prisoners in orange suits) are essentially cannon fodder for anomalies. The comic joke is basically the extremely reaction where the guard “saves” the D-Class from SCP-173’s neck-breaking grab by shooting him.

          That SCP only moves when you aren’t looking at it. Think Doctor Who’s Weeping Angels. I’m guessing the researcher called to help the man. The guard figured he would save the D-class by shooting him himself.
