[Bias alert - #NYT usually favors Israel]
The only reason there’s a ceasefire is because the IDF was losing. Any other reasoning is pure spin.
Honestly, I thought it was so Isntreal could try to get Lebanese to return from where they’d evacuated so that the IOF can start bombing civilians in a few weeks when they decide Lebanon is a threat again (based on the ceasefire language mentioned in a CBS article)
“Echoing remarks from earlier from Netanyahu, Mr. Biden said if Hezbollah or anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to Israel, then Israel retains the right to self-defense.”

They want to move the Lebanese army to the south to “enforce” the ceasefire. I think they’re trying to pit Hezbollah and the Lebanese army against each other in the hopes of starting a civil war.
Pure speculation on my part however, so take with a grain of salt.
