Question of the week:
What did you like most from the recent TGA 2024, assuming you watched it or know of the announcements?
and
What did you enjoy most from the year 2024 in terms of gaming?
Well, a lot of bad news has happened politically IRL, but let’s make this thread a good one, and enjoy ourselves here!
Just played The Quarry, and it was a blast. Can highly recommend if you enjoy choices based story games. My favorite genres are story games, turn based tactical, and roguelikes. I find I don’t have a huge amount of time to play, so I like games that aren’t too complex and that you can pick up and play without having to remember how the game works.
Didn’t follow TGAs this year. For 2024 games, I really enjoyed Selaco, Spiritfall, Portal Revolution, and Arco.
sounds gud
I only played around 5 minutes of the My Sims Kingdom that came out on the Switch. I am in my finals week so I haven’t been able to play anything, but after the 19th I’m free (until January)! My favourite genre seems to be cozy games, so that’s interesting, although I also like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Legend of Zelda, so I don’t know what to say about that.
I don’t pay attention to the game awards, I think CaseOh won something. I liked playing my switch games and some on steam this year, not much gaming from me unfortunately. I imagine next year will be even less games because it’s my final year of undergrad which means I have to lock in.
Never heard of CaseOh before the event
I’ve only ever seen clips of him on TikTok but he’s hilarious and hot, double whammy! An award well deserved
Oh damn, I could use some comedy. Guess I’ll check them out.
Got back into playing pokken (am getting consistent wins against hard AI now yay)
Pokken? What’s that?
it’s a pokemon fighting game for the switch (and the wii u i guess)
Oh, Pokken Tournament!
Still on factorio. About 120 hours into the save. Pausing now to study programming a bit, but will play less hard, for the upcoming months, likely.
Damn, I need a game I can just grind.
Replayed two flash games from my childhood that held up incredibly well. First was Battle of Britain 303 Squadron, and the second 1066. Would recommend if you have 15 minutes to spare!
Damn, flash games. They still around? What about Tetris on the Internet or as a flash game?
I was watching a video saying that they were held in “flash base,” as an archive.
I was soooo excited for Veilguard. Guess which game I kinda hate? 😅
I will never forget the intense and deep disappointment I felt after playing DA2. I hear Inquisition was better, but the entire series was dead to me from that point forward and I lost faith in direction of the series from that point.
I’m not the “stop having fun” type, but it’s a bummer to hear that they never managed to bring it back to the great to the same spot that made the first game so phenomenal.
I know what you mean. I really enjoyed Inquisition, I still play it today. It’s not perfect but it’s great. Veilguard just feels like a bad cartoon. Example: I’m playing as a Shadow Dragon and everyone keeps explaining to me what the Shadow Dragons do. Ok, yep, read the codex, read my own intro, I got it.
It was originally supposed to be a heavily monetized live service game and they had to pivot really late in development because of backlash during playtesting. A lot of the weirdness you see like that is because they were reworking what basically amounted to a bad mmo. I hear the last few hours of the story are pretty good though.

Damn.
I want to desperately enjoy The Veilguard and I still plan to buy it. I loved Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age Inquisition growing up.
Too bad only three decisions carry over from the third game…
This was probably the best TGA ever. Even the skits were funny. Definitely intrigued by the idea of an Elden Ring spin-off but the football game from the Sifu devs looked really cool too.
Yeah, definitely the best TGA ever. And I’m actually interested in the Elden Ring spin-off. I actually want it, warts and all. I know it’s a GaaS-type deal. But I don’t care, provided it’s done well for a good enough time, at least…
caves of qud 1.0 out now babeyy!!! also been playing gyruss for the arcade and panel de pon/puzzle league/tetris attack.
fav video genres are roguelikes, puzzle games, and arcade games like shmups.
there was a game awards…?
ring racers is THE game of 2024 in my heart and soul and spirit and its factual go play ring racers
fuck yes, ring racers
Caves of Qud is finally out! WOW!
I’ve been playing some Pokémon. I’m mostly finished w/ Fire Red, just need to rematch the Elite 4, and I’m mostly done with Let’s Go Pikachu too, which I started playing because a friend is also playing right now. And although it is extremely easy difficulty wise, I’m doing a living dex since catching Pokémon in this game is, at least, fun.
I’m getting the urge to go back to Baldur’s Gate 3, Breath of the Wild and Disco Elysium, all which I haven’t finished yet, unfortunately.
About TGA, I wasn’t expecting another FromSoftware game, and it being an Elden Ring alternate reality 3-player roguelike? SIGN ME IN, the trailer was cool, I want to see where this goes. Other than that, the only other games that caught my attention where the football game which looked so fucking cool, and this comes from someone that absolutely hate sports games, specially Fifa; The Long Dark looked super cool too and the new Ninja Gaiden looked amazing. I’m also interested in Onimusha after the trailer on TGA, so I’ll take a look into the games some time.
Ah, I can see that you have Kras Mazov as your username, but you haven’t finished Disco Elysium.
Shows the effect the game had on you just like it did to all of us…

Oh, I’ve heard great things about Mirthwood, tbh
I’ve been playing a lot of Baldi’s Basics Plus (0.8 update) recently. Probably going to play either more FreedroidRPG or Songs of Syx next. My favorite genres are still the same: Any type of RPG (turn-based, action, …) and RTS games, particularly more complex city builders.
I’ve watched TGA but there is nothing really in particular that stands out to me. Maybe Witcher 4? But I want to see some gameplay first. In terms of 2024 games I really enjoyed Portal: Revolution.
Wow, FreedroidRPG looks interesting. Can you elaborate more on it?
I haven’t played too much of the main quest yet but it’s a top-down isometric ARPG like Fallout or Diablo. Basically you play as Tux the penguin (the Linux mascot) on a quest to fight rogue robots who’ll attack anyone on sight. It’s licensed under the GPLv2 so it’s libre open source software. Most Linux distros and BSDs feature it in their native package repositories but it’s also on Steam as of last year.
Gotcha, gotcha
What Video Games Have You Played Recently?
I recently finished Indika which is this strange little indie game where you play as a nun in the Russian Orthodoxy and my god. It was perfect, an insane story, the set-pieces were excellent, and the discussions on theology were very well written and for someone never really exposed to religion much it was very interesting.
Favorite Video Game Genre?
Probably social deduction multiplayer games. I do really enjoy a good single player story, but nothing is as addictive to me as a good game of SS14 or 13. There is so much fun to be had and every game you play is unique.
What did you like most from the recent TGA 2024, assuming you watched it or know of the announcements
Probably my most anticipated game from there is The Long Dark II just because a multiplayer version of that game should be fun. I anticipate zomboid but without zombies which should be fun
i really like Indika’s style, i haven’t had a game grip my attention like that in a very long time but I kept getting stuck in the chase thing with the beast and finally just gave up
I really do recommend you finish it. The game gets a lot more depressing after that and the ending really does hit you like a brick. Would recommend
Awesome!
i played the Indiana Jones game a bit last week… it’s not really all that great but somehow it’s just good enough to keep me trying to collect the things and whip Nazis
I download just about every game that comes out but most of them i delete within an hour or two of playing
i actually started playing tf2 again after many many years of not playing it … it’s still the same game i remember and loved, but i would love it if there was a MegaTF mod for it like there was for TF on Quake
Well, it seems that this Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (I presume that’s the one you mean) game was an improvement for you.
Oh, and punching and whipping the ass of Nazis; what’s not to love?
Finished bulletstorm,
Starting sekiro.
Enjoy!
Just about finished up playing Assassin’s Creed Mirage, was waiting for it to come out on Steam. Have definitely enjoyed it a lot, was nice to play a new AC game thats closer to the originals in style, as I like the stealth gameplay. They did a super good job recreating 8th century Baghdad, clearly a lot of care went into it. I love little details how like if you go to the market area you can hear foreign traders speaking their own languages. The attention to detail in the city is really good and the place feels very alive. It makes me really want to see them do another game in this style focused on maybe 2nd century Rome, as I still have yet to see a game properly tackle recreating Rome at the height of its wealth and power. If anyone can do that justice its this team as they nailed Baghdad.
As much as I enjoyed the game it also made me realize that I kind of like the more sprawling RPG direction games like Odyssey and Valhalla took. It makes me excited for the new Japan AC next year. Ubisoft gets shit on a lot for good reason but I really like the open world games they make, I have a lot of fun with them.
I didnt watch The Game Awards but I saw some of the announcements, definitely interested in the new Turok and Okami games. Nothing else really stuck out for me, Witcher 4 looks cool of course but for whatever reason I’ve always bounced off of the Witcher games, tried all 3 at various points and have never been able to enjoy them. Maybe this one will be different who knows.
2024 I actually played a lot of games, probably more than I should have. None of them were games released recently really but I had an absolute blast replaying Fable Anniversary and Zelda Wind Waker HD this year. Also played through Dark Souls remastered for the first time this year, extremely good remaster of a great game. I also played 2 and 3 again this year but after playing them all in quick succession I think DS1 is my favorite. Such tight level design and atmosphere, and the game suits my preferred playstyle of hiding behind a shield and smacking people with a mace.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage looks great, but it just seems too in-line with the recent AC games for me and I just don’t like how the modern-day story-line has went. I’m interested in Assassin’s Creed Shadow though. But again, I just hate how they killed off Desmond Miles. A 2nd century Rome game would be nice. They once did a comic set during that era. Maybe during the Byzantine empire as well?
Also, I liked Odyssey. Never played Valhalla but I want to. Valhalla actually looks gorgeous, from gameplay videos I’ve seen, especially when you’re riding your horse through the coast-line of Scandinavia.
Turok looks great, though some people didn’t like how it looked; I don’t mind the third-person shooter design though.
