If they’re an An-Prim then fine I get it, but to attribute economic growth and societal change with “a bad smell” is a red flag, and NOT the good kind.
Could be a Maoist too, they also hate China’s industrialisation and societal change because the Gang of Four would’ve magically fixed every problem China had, if evil Deng had not overthrown them like the tyrant he was.
Idk if they were a Maoist I think they would’ve mentioned Mao at one point, to go from Great Wall and “Feudal China based” to a bad smell in the air probably suggests they weren’t fans of the PRC to start
