Meanwhile, in reality, they are terrified of letting Puerto Rico become a state because it might threaten their delicate gerrymandered hegemony in Congress by adding two more senators and one or more representatives. This “map” is the fever dream of a lead-poisoned, terminally MAGA moron.

I don’t know if owe is the right word, but yeah, both parties assume they’ll go democrat and I think that’s a smug assumption typical of the elites. Granted trump was a dick to PR during hurricane Maria, but if he actually responded appropriately he’d likely have a lot more support than either party would realize. I think they should either be a state or gain full independence, this in between seems unfair to them. (And I feel that way about all of Americas territories subject to taxation without representation)

Legitimately what is wrong with these people?

They want a fascist leader and to invade their neighbours?

They know how that historically ends right?

Like the “you won’t let me say a slur so I’m gonna be a nazi” thing was kinda supposed to be an overly reductive meme, but this guy’s just out there living it.

the US is going to turn into the same thing as Russia, a Kleptocratic, ultranationalist, fake-religious gangster state, right now they’re getting ready for the 1990s version of Russia where public assets, infrastructure and industries are carved up and sold to private interests, IE Oligarchs. Trump wont live long enough to see the end result, but America’s next mini-Putin will make his play in about 10 years or so.

The actual issue was being easily invaded by land. The rest of the world’s superpowers would need to invade us by sea, and even in the 21st century, keeping supply and logistics chains open across the ocean is actually pretty hard in a war with a peer who has more capacity to STOP your naval and airlift capability than you have of defending it.

An interesting thing about this map, the way these lines are drawn would all but guarantee conservative victories for a long, long time.

A bunch of extra, barely inhabited states, to give two extra electoral votes and a handful of senators to conservatives. I wonder if whoever drew this is aware that most Canadian conservatives are closer to American Democrats than American conservatives.

outside of the far right / populist MAGA copycats in the People’s Party of Canada, and a certain strain of Albertan Separatist types. Most Canadian Conservatives are leftists compared to the US parties.

even Pierre Pollievre who canadians are labeling as a Trump puppet, is openly supportive of many policies the GOP would crucify people for, like abortion, gay marriage, etc.

They know how that historically ends right?

To be fair In the US’s case, when a fascist invaded a neighboring country they ended up robbing half of the Mexican territory. The better comparison would be taking what usually happens when the US invades any country, and then imagine that happening inside the US. You don’t shit where you eat.

I keep seeing liberals roll this one out, despite spending the last six months shamelessly pandering to conservative voters. Can’t imagine why a Democrat would lose an election with this strategy. “You’re an idiot! You’re an idiot! You’re an idiot! Oh, um, vote for me, I actually love strong border policies and Israel is the Best and transgender athletes are a big problem, tee-hee! Fuck, fuck, fuck, you’re an idiot, you’re an idiot!”

Love how true this is yet is currently at -19.

Liberals can’t cope with their election loss, in which their parties strategy was to court people who would never vote for them in the first place instead of their base who they actually secretly hate and just pander to for votes yet will never do anything for because it counters their donors wishes.

Stalin was a communist revolutionary who played an integral role in the creation of the USSR. Putin is a liberal counterrevolutionary, who is partly responsible for hypercapitalist modern Russia, the two are not comparable at all.

If by “he sure is like stalin”, you mean he employs violence to maintain and consolidate power, that’s every state ever, that’s kinda how states work.

They don’t want to do that, those would both add solidly democratic senators, and likely permanently cost them the Senate.

Not like Canada and Greenland, which are notoriously conservative and would vote for Republicans consistently. Ignore the comparatively liberal policies, those aren’t related. Quebec and Greenland in particular are just chomping at the bit to jump on Republican mainstays like adopting English as the one true and official language of the US.

I think you attribute far more cleverness to them than they have. I don’t think they care if we’re concerned about their lack of morals or ideas. Why would they? All the information needed to know about that was publicly available before the election and it didn’t matter. The people who would care already know, and the people who wouldn’t… There’s no reason to distract them. Not that it matters, since they won and we can’t exactly change that.
I can assure you my snark here doesn’t reduce the amount of other conversations I’m having elsewhere. I can hold opinions on multiple topics at once. ;)

I wouldn’t put it past them to actually want this insanity. People said the same things about how talk of overturning Roe was just a distraction because it’s a “settled matter” and doing it would be insanity.

Imagine if they’re not actually playing 5 dimensional chess. Imagine if their platform is exactly what they say it is, and their dumb ideas are real. If they respond to claims they don’t have any ideas by saying they have the best ideas, and to claims of immorality by calling them lies and calling the accuser a pedophile.

I think people want them to be more clever than they are, because it means that people got duped, rather than their surface level idiocy being super appealing to a lot of people.
