Once a kid is in their teens they’ll start saying really funny shit that parents might feel like they need to discourage. It’s too bad that parents don’t feel like they can be open with their children, but the role of “parent” and “friend” don’t always perfectly overlap. Sometimes, even if something is funny, it might feel like it’s best for a parent to not encourage it.
Such as saying “It’s funny when CEOs get gunned down in the street.” Like, yeah, it is funny. But don’t talk like that.
Personally I’d want to encourage that kind of thinking, but I’m sympathetic to parents that don’t want their children to die in prison.
Must be frustrating to have your authority figures be this inconsistent and hypocritical…I like adults to be honest and clear about what they mean.
If your parents do that kind of shit they’re not good parents.
