This time round, the “Trump bump” isn’t showing up for media outlets who, during the president-elect’s first term, saw huge ratings, reports @AxiosNews’s Sara Fischer. She cites research that two-thirds of Americans felt the need to dial down political news consumption post-election.

However there are little pockets where things are booming, including independent media — at the second link, @CNN’s Brian Stelter writes about how The Guardian U.S. has seen a significant increase in immediate and pledged contributions that make up the majority of the outlet’s annual revenue.

We want to know: How has your media diet changed in recent months (choose as many options as you like).

@AxiosNews @[email protected] @CNN There’s no point. Even if some “news” org publishes something, there’s no such thing as consequences. There’s no reason to read it and make myself sick over it.

A mere 11% of respondents to this poll said they haven’t changed their media diet at all in recent months, with more than half saying they’re reading less about news and politics and choosing different sources for them, 45% saying they’ve subscribed and donated to independent sites (hooray!) and 32% having canceled media subscriptions. @[email protected] says “many news organizations have lost the benefit of the doubt that they’re free to hold power to account,” while @[email protected] “Even if some ‘news’ org publishes something, there’s no such thing as consequences. There’s no reason to read it and make myself sick over it.” @[email protected] suggests that we repeat this poll in a few months — which we will definitely do.

At the beginning of 2025 (a thousand years ago!) we shared a Flipboard blogpost about using the app to be more intentional about your “news diet.” Here’s another look:
