Summary
Racial justice group leaders called for a national boycott of Target during a rally Thursday in front of the offices of the Minneapolis-based retailer.
Target announced last week that it would end its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and investments. The initiatives include a program it established aimed at helping Black employees build meaningful careers, improving the experience of Black shoppers and promoting Black-owned businesses, following the police killing of George Floyd in 2020.
You can buy most of the things from target, from Costco
This is not even close to being true, unless you’re speaking very generally. Milk, soda, meat, bread. Target has 5-10 times more options for each item than Costco does.
“most”
And if Costco has them at all, having multiple of them is moving the goalposts.
And ya know what really matters? Costco maintains their dei stance and pays a more fair wage.
So don’t defend a shit company with gotchas
I’m not defending Target and that wasn’t a “gotcha.” I recommend people boycott Target if they can, but to say that “
everything” “most of the things” you can buy at Target is available at Costco just isn’t true. You can make your point without hyperbole.
Most people I know locally (which is admittedly not that many) said they aren’t shopping at Target anymore, so that’s good to see.
Same. My wife had a large discussion at her work about what stores they are moving to. So its happening without an organized effort. But I won’t shop there in Feburary.
I can’t think of a single thing I would buy at Target that I can’t get elsewhere, it was just fairly convenient because they are all over the place, but I can and will stop going there. I just wish Costco wasn’t always so packed.
Same. Costco is always packed and not as convenient to get to and way less fun to shop at.
We have been trying to do smaller, local and independent places as well but you still need the basics from somewhere
We just got a local reuse store. You bring your own bottles and fill them, all household necessities sold by weight. Hand soap, floor cleaner, vinegar, dish soap, etc. they have what you need to clean an entire house and an entire person. They also sell environmentally friendly/reusable brushes and stuff. Dish brushes, toilet brushes, toothbrushes, all with reusable parts and all biodegradable.
We have been getting some things from a package free store as well. We have been using Evergreen Collective and have been to Tare Market. Both are great and totally worth checking out
