IOP = intensive outpatient therapy
I was in inpatient rehab ~6 months ago, still on 3-a-week IOP. We were doing values and morality and the facilitator used the Heinz dilemma. I try not to get too polemical in these arenas but it’s impossible to defend my position on this one without it and so that’s exactly what I did. Ended up steering the whole hour around relations to means of production, social murder, Luigi got involved, etc. etc. You know healthcare in the us is fucked when a commercial real estate guy was firmly on my side (pretty much came to be group consensus, we even got the boomer church lady to come around).
anyway, point is you never know when you’ll get a chance to agitate even when you’re in recovery (but keep your recovery first please!)
I hadn’t heard of the Heinz dilemma before, but it seems like a useful tool for probing and discussing someone’s moral compass. The trolley problem is way too “thought experimenty” by comparison.
yeah the fact that it’s a pharma/healthcare analogue makes it almost perfect for a foot in the door
