Can we change it to “In-sea-curity”?

Or just “The Sea of Insecurity”?

    Or maybe “Man Baby Bay”

Or “Weak Little Pussy removed President Tiny Hands Dumb Dumb Deep Water Douche Lagoon”

Or, like, “The Gulf of Mexico”…

As viewed from USA only … Gulf of Mexico’s view is unchanged for the rest.

Switched from Google Maps to Apple Maps a couple months ago, and I’d like to Switch to an alternative that doesn’t implement fascist place names, but navigation with toll road avoidance unfortunately doesn’t seem to be a common feature 😕

Thanks for the recommendation! Can’t remember why I hadn’t tried Organic Maps when testing alternative options, but already glad to see the Gulf of Mexico keeping its proper name. Going on a roadtrip in a few days, so I’ll get a chance to properly test it out then. 👍

I like organic maps but unless you’re in a very major city with a lot of people contributing, the information can frequently be out of date and it is not very good at finding optimal roots (I’m not even talking about the complete lack of traffic data).

It often just looks for the shortest distance between two points which can put you on some wacky paths. Still, if i’m not in a rush/don’t have my kids in the car, I will often use it. It’s a B+ experience which I’m happy to accept for open source/no tracking and selling my data/etc

Since giving up my car and moving to a new city in a new country, the only maps app I have found that gives decent walking directions is Apple Maps. Google and the others do things like skip around footpaths, probably because they base everything on roads meant for cars. That’s my guess anyway.

And then Google Maps is the only one that tends to have the info I actually need. Especially what is open right now since that’s kind of confusing here. Businesses often close much earlier in the UK than they did in the US. So I end up doing things like search Google Maps for a cafe or convenience store that’s still open, then search Apple Maps for the best walking route. And then feel stupid, but I have yet to find a workaround. And I’ve tried.

Any alternative will just be bought up anyway since America decided monopolies are no longer a bad thing.

I don’t see that Apple has a choice here if they want to keep doing business in the U.S.

Trump and Musk have made it pretty clear that you either give in to their petty demands or there will be trouble.

And any company that defies the administration is going to learn really quickly why they shouldn’t.

Part of their whole plan has been to upend the whole corporatist idea that both parties have embraced and turn it into “we are pro-corporate, but only for the right corporate. You scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours.”
