This is the ideology that would have been absorbed into the GDR had things gone the other way. It seems like the seeds had been sown for any attempt at reunification to result in the dismantlement of the GDR.
I disagree, there was a systematic push from the FRG from jump to dismantle and push out communists at all levels and push anything to replace it. I belive the FRG had former Nazis in leadership too. This seems less like “an enevitability of a unification” because to be frank calling it a Unification is still a euphamism, it was an annexation of East Germany by West Germany. Assuming the Annexation went the other way, and the GDR had the control knobs, there is no reason that I have seen to indicate that the GDR would not have been able to do the reverse.
Is this based on the assumption that reunification happened shortly after the end of WWII? I’m not trying to argue with you and sorry if its coming off that way. My knowledge of the FRG/GDR situation is very surface level. I only posted the essay because I found it interesting and it seemed relevant to the discussion.
