Playing Chained Echoes right now, it’s pretty fun and feels a lot like Chrono Trigger. Definitely recommend for anybody who likes old school JRPGs.

Sifu was another fun game I played recently, really good fighting mechanics that feel very fluid and look cinematic.

Afterparty was a fun story based game I can recommend for people looking for something casual.

I find I tend to like indie games nowadays because they tend to be shorter and mechanics are simpler, so you can just pick it up and play it for a bit without having to really get into it.

My fav genres are roguelike and story based games, in particular I really liked pretty much everything Telltale games made. I find they always have excellent writing in their games.

I used to play a lot of FPS and RTS games, but last RTS I played was SC2, and for FPS it was Titanfall 2 which was a ton of fun.

I played the beta, the combat is refreshingly different (does not seem similar to the FFG Rogue Trader rules). I had so much fun with it, that I stopped so I dont spoil it when it comes out.

How’s the atmosphere? The trailers seemed a bit cartoony, which isn’t really an issue given how wacky 40k often is, but does it convey the gloom and doom of it?

Just some Coral Island(Stardew-like game) and Street Fighter 6 to abide the time waiting for Baldurs Gate 3. Today is finally the day, im so hecking excited, the way I haven’t for a piece of media since my teens. I’ll be making the queerest, gayest, most simping character fighting for marginalized people(my kind of power fantasy) ever

Currently playtesting Mars Tactics, It’s sort of like Red Faction combined with XCOM, in that it’s about a worker’s strike on Mars that escalated into a full-blown uprising, but it works on turn-based squad tactics combined with a planetary strategic & logistics system.

Idk why they give me an option to play as the bourgeois though, I’ll never use it. Other than that, it’s pretty damn great.

I’m still playing Dyson Sphere Program when I have time but it’s been busy. I got my sphere mostly done in my home planet and have a sphere design in mind for my next but I need to get endgame white science on farm first before that. I think I’m actually starting to lose interest in the game which is fine sing I got a few hundred hours in. That’s rare for my attention span.

My kid and I finished Mario Odyssey on this playthrough recently. He ended up playing most of the second half and was knocking out levels on his own. Can’t lie I was both impressed and proud of him. He’s actually currently working through postgame stuff now which I didn’t even know existed.

I’m still not done with Antimatter Dimensions… I’m on the last mechanic and about halfway through it but I think I’m ready to be finished with it.

Noice. Dyson Sphere Program sounds 'ight. Right up my alley, even. Tbh, strategy games don’t do it for me, but that one sounds good. Also, damn, Super Mario Odyssey is also a great game! Glad for your kid.

I feel like automation games strike a very different itch than traditional strategy games. The goal is (generally) not to build up to defeat some enemy but just to build for the sake of building even more. As a kid I always loved strategy games for the base building, but never liked the fighting my enemy part so much. I think that is why I really enjoy the automation and city builder genres.

Some have combat, but they are almost always secondary to the core of the game. Dyson has no combat yet, but it is coming in the near future. Still will be totally optional though.

DSP is my favourite of all the factory games and first one I recommend to people. I like the clean scifi aesthetic, it is probably the best visuals of a game in that genre, just seeing the dyson swarms form into a sphere over the horizon is really pretty. The devs seem like genuinely awesome people who give clear updates, plus I like to support Chinese game devs.

I am honestly not super interested in the upcoming combat update, because I never like the base defense aspect of those games.

I’m playing Jedi: Survivor. I really like it both from exploration and story. Think the grand master difficulty isn’t well tuned. I keep getting one shot here and there. Sekiron felt more fair.

Planned to continue Chains of Echo. The turn based system in this game is interesting and isn’t most of the turn based RPGs.

Guess my TOTK playthrough has to stay on hiatus for a while.

Funny. Last time I was in one of these threads, I was asked what game I was looking forward to. It was long enough ago that my answer was “BoTW 2.” My answer to the current question? Tears of The Kingdom.

Just cranked out the Red Faction series. Wanted more out of Guerilla, but the online is dead. Somehow found myself playing AC4 next. Oddly okay with this.

    I like sandboxes I guess.

Mostly DayZ recently and some Rocketleague again for the first time in a while.

Gave TW:Attila a decent shot recently. Pretty good game, TWs just get stale fairly fast for me.

Also tried the HP game a while ago and…it’s just boring. Looks pretty good, there’s tons to do, they put in a lot of effort, but idk. Still feels weirdly lifeless and unengaging to me. Can’t really put my finger on it. On paper it’s everything my 10yo self would’ve wanted from an open world HP game, but it isn’t. Played maybe 8h, haven’t touched it in weeks and I highly doubt I’ll ever finish it.

Does it have proper UI scale now? I remember playing it long ago and it was great and since then a lot of great mods came out but i can’t play it since the interface is microscopic on higher resolutions.

A fellow Rimworlder! Modded or vanilla? I have been a big fan of the VE series of mods, so just started an underground vampire faction game with a few of their more recent mods.

It’s fortunate to see this thread, as I just so happen to have something games related that I want to rant about and see the opinions of the comrades. Glad to see you back, Makan.

So. About ten or a bit more years ago, I was at this superhero RP place (I was younger, cringe and marvelbrained), and many folks there were big fans of the Metal Gear series - to the point of blatantly ripping off concept and characters. One fellow even made a “Diamond Dogs PMC”. Others were all “Remember the basics of CQC” and all that jazz.

Listening to them talk about MGS made it appear as a serious and immersive stealth thriller, with a deep lore and deep philosophy that makes one pause and ponder. Now, ten years later, I was randomly reminded of MGS existence by a colleague (as I understand he just likes stealth actions). So what do I do? I go and see if my steam library has any. It does - my brother has MGS V in his library which I can access! Hurray!

So I’ve decided to try it, and well… Let’s just say I liked the Ultramarines movie more.

The loading before the main menu is an endless slog of “dlc this, logging into servers that, look at our privacy agreement, and now another one”. Okay. Start the game, and that’s where the real show begins. It takes one hour or more just to waddle through what is essentially a prologue and teaching the controls. And it’s trying SO hard to be “cinematic” it just ends up silly.

Oh here we have a spy thriller intro, with gritty stuff like human teeth embedded in your skull! Oh next we have a super sneaky spec ops chick killing a nurse while the doctor doesn’t notice! And the protag apparently can’t even gesture to bring Doc’s attention to it!

Now we have Satan Man! Oh no, he’s impervious to bullets! But wait, he is defeated by a sprinkler! And there’s creepy gasmask girl that looks like everyone’s edgy OC from 00’s! She has much telekinesis! Except she apparently can’t move people and just throws rocks and shit. And it just goes on and on with this. Spoopy gasmask wearing russkies indiscriminately murder random patients! But also can’t notice two guys hiding under the bed.

Oh no, they’re checking the bodies and popping them in heads just in case! But now they’ve decided to stop, because our protagonist can magically hold his breath (despite being unable to walk five minutes ago) and also because mysterious helper peed under himself or something. The horseback chase was just one ginormous pile of ridiculous, and I’m saying this as a Warhammer fan ffs.

Also the helicopter looked stupid, why not just use a proper Mi-24?

The first actual mission is taking place during “Soviet invasion of Afghanistan”, with Ocelot (fuckin cowboyyboo) ranting about le ebil Soviets and brave resistance and how protag’s supposed “private army” (!) is helping them resist. Wew, such Rambo. And it straight up lists “Soviet airborne brigade” as the enemy - right after taking a pause to add Ocelot’s eyewear to the title screen. Because I guess it’s funni. The titles, my god, the endless titles. It’s trying to be a movie, to the point I have to wonder why it was made a video game to begin with.

So all in all, I am not merely disappointed, I am severely displeased. What was originally sold to me by the fans as this cool spy thriller, turned out to be nothing more than capeshit in a different wrapper.

    Rant over.
