I just started watching Dark on Netflix. I’m 5 episodes in and I’m seriously considering phoning in sick today just so I can watch more. It’s incredible.

For those of you who watch the BBC archive stuff on YouTube I highly recommend Andy Pearmans channel, he’s uploading full episodes of old TV shows including such delights as Beadles About, The Tube and Tomorrows World

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, I think I was expecting more of a murder mystery but it turned out to be better than that. Highly recommended it.

Music wise I feel like I’m late to the party with Idles but they are so good. Ultra Mono is a quality album.

      Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Really liked this too, even though I didn’t expect to.

The prompt in this post reminds me of Jesse from The Fast Show (Mark Williams)

“This week, I have mostly been…”

So for the rest of this week i will mostly be bingeing every episode of the fast show on BBC iPlayer since I’m told they’re not expiring for another two more years.

And then after the final Fast Show I’ll probably watch the anniversary special. Whitehouse’s Rowley Birkin QC is phenomenal in the sketch where he’s recounting a story of his youth without presently being drunk. Incredibly delivered and written in a poignant way that only British comedy seems able to achieve; à la Blackadder Goes Over The Top/Goodbyeee.

Edit: this is the one. https://youtu.be/QlZFfXAUr2I

We’re slowly working down a list of recommended horror films from a friend. I very much enjoyed There’s Something Wrong With The Children despite its reviews everywhere being fairly terrible. That said, one review I read said it got one star for not having “cool effects” so I think maybe that opinion can be discarded.

Parents might find it a difficult watch in a couple places, fair warning.

We also watched Men which was a beautiful, surreal and effectively unsettling two thirds of a film followed by just a load of artsy nonsense. So I have no idea how to rate it at all, but hey if you like artsy nonsense…

Listening to new album Dead Club City by Nothing But Thieves for the last week or so. Trying not to over play it.

Interested in quantum leap reboot coming to paramount tomorrow. Watched the original 25 years ago.

Last weekend I was rummaging around in the clearance bin at the local entertainment shop. I picked up One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and A Clockwork Orange for $5.00 each and Quatermass and the Pit for $2.95. That’s this weekend sorted for telly time. Mrs Spudger hasn’t seen any of these.

Oh, and new speakers too, at long last.

Late to the thread I know, but I’ve been watching Legion this week and I’ve no idea why I slept on this so long. It really is spectacular and I’m loving it.

You’ve just reminded me that I never finished it. Will definitely stick it on my watchlist. I’ve been rewatching Silicon Valley, which is also great.

I don’t know how widely it is being distributed, but I went to see a 50th anniversary remastered version of Rudolph Nureyev’s Don Quixote (1973) over the weekend. I know pretty much nothing about ballet, but it was very impressive.

I also saw You Hurt My Feelings (2023) which was a thoughtful one about support and truth in relationships that prompted some discussion afterwards, as this kind of film should.

TV: Shane Meadows’ The Gallows Pole: This Valley Will Rise - teetering on the edge of farce at times, but definitely entertaining; The Righteous Gemstones - season 3 continues the saga of the awful OTT family and still does the trick; Ruby Speaking - really wasn’t sure about this, but surprisingly entertaining.

Started watching The Diplomat on Netflix. I’m 4 episodes in and it’s ok but why is everyone so useless other than the Americans?

    It’s quite off-putting.
