After internal chaos earlier this month, OpenAI replaced the women on its board with men. As it plans to add more seats, Timnit Gebru, Sasha Luccioni, and other AI luminaries tell WIRED why they wouldn't join.
Yeah, the fact that they said she was committed to “AI safety” (instead of “AI ethics”) was a misstep, Wired has published her take on “AI safety” before but maybe they haven’t realized how contentious those two terms have become (or just forgot).
The way they fail to separate her from the AI cultists is sad and cringeworthy, but the thought of OpenAI considering Timnit Gebru on their board of directors is incredibly funny. Almost like Activision-Blizzard hiring James Stephanie Sterling.
Getting Gebru in there would be fucking hilarious, I can’t believe Wired asked her. Not loving that they’re conflating her with EAs though.
If you want to annoy an AI doomer ask why they don’t support Gebru.
