That’s fairly low for software engineers in California. Companies like Google and Facebook pay 2-4x plus (I’d imagine Twitter does too, and that’s just a straight average for all employees including cleaning staff etc). Glassdoor says software engineer salaries range from 200-280k a year.
Toxic environments and uncertainty take their toll. I wouldn’t want to have a boss as impulsive as Elron, and at this point I’d feel like Twitter wouldn’t look great on a resume. The tech jobs market isn’t easy lately, though, after the pandemic/zero interest loan period ended and mass layoffs came into fashion (partly due to Elron’s example).
Musk is playing fast and loose with their future, saying things that by his own admission may result in the death of the company.
If I was a working person, supporting a family, working at that time bomb would not be a wise choice.
Twitter average salary is $117k / year + 17k bonus. Seems like an ok job.

It’s a global company, certainly the average is higher in, say, San Fransisco: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Twitter-San-Francisco-Salaries-EI_IE100569.0,7_IL.8,21_IM759.htm
This is true. If it indeed is/has become toxic, the amount of money needed to compensate for that is much more than double.
I wasn’t referring to salary but stability. If Musk’s comments about company death are anything to go by.
