Colorado supreme court ruled that they can take Trump off the ballot, now it looks like California is trying to do that as well. Meanwhile, republican states are threatening to retaliate in kind.
This seems unprecedented for US, does anybody know what happens in this scenario?
I would think the bigger issue would be whether the winner would have any legitimacy.

Constitutionally, it wouldn’t be an issue. We’ve had presidential elections where candidates weren’t on all states’ ballots., and elections that had to be decided by Congress.
Public perception would be a different story.
Ok, that was my understanding as well. With the level of tensions right now, it seems that whichever side loses is unlikely to accept the results.
