Anyone have a link to the politifact article, for reference? Their search tool is not good.
I want to believe, but everybody lies.
They rated it as mostly true actually - https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2014/jul/29/facebook-posts/are-97-nations-100-poorest-counties-red-states/ and https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2014/mar/28/occupy-democrats/pro-democrat-group-says-9-10-poorest-states-are-re/ but you’ll notice they’re from 10 years ago… probably not much different, especially after our last president…
I think these are the articles:
- “Nine out of the 10 poorest states are Red states.”
- “97 percent of the 100 poorest counties in America are in red states.”
but, to add nuance, it doesn’t really tell you much about cause and effect. It’s not a lie but it’s a pretty hard conclusion to draw from a few figures.
I guess this is getting cross-posted to a lot of places. Here’s my favorite rant on the topic:
You’re talking to people who don’t understand what 9 out of 10 means
They’re rich in spirit. Yes, that’s a real thing we poor folk tell each other.
That’s because California took our jobs.
Californians are so desperate and willing to do the same job for a higher pay that they would be getting in those 9, that the companies have no choice, but to hire them.
Californians illegally come to our states and take our jobs.
Some people don’t understand the sarcasm in your post.
I’m not being sarcastic.
Username checks out
I will not take the rage bait, thank you very much
You mean employers hire the better workers and you can’t accept that you’re not as good?
No, I mean Californians enter our states illegally and take our jobs back to California.
What’s so hard to understand?
We should build a wall around california.
Yeah and the president of California should pay for it.
You took California’s financial support - and continue to.
What happened to the invisible hand of the market being the best way to allocate resources, my guy?
The invisible hand of the market took our jobs too, buddy.
Yes - That was what I was referring to in the market allocation of (labor) resources. Try to keep up.
Are free markets a bad thing broadly, or is it only when they hurt your feelings?
Only were California takes our jerbs.
