There was a post about this a month ago. The tldr is that one of the maintainers is arrogant and controlling so a bunch of other people quit. It wasn’t out of the blue either, it’s been coming for a long time. There are alternative android store options, so its not too much of a big deal
I’d wait for a bit and see how things turn out. Sometimes there is internet drama in some of the projects. And it seems justified in this case. But it’s still internet drama. We have to hope in the end the toxic or incompetent people go away and it’s not everyone else who has to leave and the project becomes abandoned. But as of now I don’t think there are any immediate consequences for you as a user. I mean you’ve trusted the same people for years and this seems to also have gone on for years. The only difference is, now we know. If there was a viable alternative, I’d switch for ethical reasons… To not support those people. But I don’t think there is a good alternative for me. And secondly I don’t think I know enough to judge people and a story with many details and things that had happened, based off of 2 short texts on the issue tracker.
Yeah, I also thought about Obtanium. Mind those are two different approaches. F-Droid builds things from source, removes trackers and invading libraries, sometimes patches something and there are maintainers who have an independent look at things. Obtanium just fetches what the original developers uploaded to Github and installs it on your device. For the better or worse.

I too would like to know. Alternatively, does anyone know of any reputable F-Droid alternatives?
Edit: sorry, as the guy below stated, this is not an alternative just a new coat of paint
I’ve been using droid-ify for a bit now and quite like it
That’s just an alternative front-end for the same service. The problem is the distribution itself, not the client used to access it.
Oh shit, sorry, thank you for the correction
+1 for droid-ify. Much more polished than f-droid too, IMO.
I recommend using Obtainium. It is not a store by himself but it is compatible with a lot of stores including github.

Is there something like obtainium with the ability to build from source?
Thanks! I’ll look it up!
Github isn’t a “store”. It’s just upstream repos where the owner can upload any artifact they like.
didn’t say it was, and that wasn’t even the point
