What’s the best open source city builder btw? I like playing random github games. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Still better than cities skylines too. No shade, C:S is good and obviously made with love, but outside of the traffic sim, it’s never felt as fleshed out. Sc4 cities feel like places, C:S cities feel like model train sets

The new wave of DLL mods would not work well if at all on older Windows disc versions

well, that sucks. mine’s a release day retail box.

I guess it doesn’t add a ton to the conversation but I wanted to express my thanks because I like articles about modding

Me. I saw it at 0 so I was the -1. I do it for the morbid satisfaction of someone asking why a random message is being download.

I am now satisfied so I take my vote away and wander in search of more messages at 0.

Those interested in the SimCity 4 modding community can buy a copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe version 1.1.641 that’s compatible with the mods via several modern sites, with most SimCity modders recommending the version purchased from GOG.

Holy cow it’s so expensive for an old game, my jaw dropped, guess GOG stopped localizing prices. It’s more expensive than Ready or Not, without a sale.

Yeah, fuck EA. Even the Sims 3 which came out in 2009 is still $20 for just the base game. All 19 DLCs are also $20. But wait, you can get the game and all the DLC packaged in a bundle for the low low price of just $190 (on Steam).

Absolutely ridiculous even without considering that you need an EA account to play legitimately which is a whole other pile of crap.

Why are the people putting the effort into simcity 4 instead of let’s say cities skylines? Is it that much better still or is it mostly nostalgia?

Well I believe modding for the newest Cities Skylines is still not available, supposed to be at a later date. Even still the gameplay feels quite different for me, Simcity feels way more laid back, Cities Skylines feel like I have to research being an actual city planner even when only at a small pop of 10k.

Better game, simpler art style, game engine that isn’t updated anymore, nostalgia.

Plus as many like to state: SimCity 4 is a city builder, Cities Skylines is a traffic simulator.

This feels like a false dichotomy. Do we know for a fact that the same people modding CS are the same ones modding SC4? Because the mod support for SC4 was extremely good even going back to 2010, thanks to Simtropolis. These could be the same people, and just PCGamer randomly deciding to put them into the spotlight now.
