Long story short me and my car got hit by a bus and the guy took off. I’m fine, but the car is damaged. I need to pay for most of the repairs because of insurance issues. I can afford it, but it’s still expensive. I’m starting to have self-doubt, this is my first car accident 😭 lenin facepalm

I’m confused, the car insurance is for if you hit something or someone else to pay them, surely? Why’s it gotta have anything to do with how much your car costs?

I’m reflecting on how much value has been extracted from me. If I had been able to keep the yearly insurance payments, I could have bought the car all over again.

No. Because no one was hurt, the insurance company said i can call a non-emergency number and nobody answer that number. I didn’t see a license plate too

In my country non-emergency police requests are, generally initiated by submitting a written request. That said traffic problems generally are handled on scene by the road police, and they usually want to photo and catalogue everything, so leaving might have been a problem in that regard.

However, you can still probably open a case and hope CCTV or some dashcam caught the situation.

E: This may or may not solve your insurance issues too. I have to imagine the reason they are denying the repair bill is due to the accident not being properly filed with the police?

Make sure you call the cops, because it provides further evidence that it did happen, and your insurance is less likely to be able to worm their way out of doing their fucking job.

Because I bought the cheapest insurance that would only pay for the damage I caused to the others. Even I call the cops they still not pay me anything

Because you’re supposed to get the other persons insurance and your insurance goes after them.

If there’s no one to charge, then how can the insurance trust you? What if you damaged the car yourself somehow and are trying to pass it off as car damage?

They will do anything not to pay. There is also a reason why “Hit and Run” is a felony.
