Former President Donald Trump says he would have responded the same way as Israel did after the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas but urged the country to “finish up” its offensive and “get this over with,” warning about international support fading.
Technically not if we’re getting into semantics. The English language is always interesting to investigate, and trump is very good at dog whistling using this language.
“finish up” implies to take action quickly to finish the initial goals, such as to attack even stronger and faster to take territory in a short amount of time.
Example: “Finish up your dinner and you can have dessert.”
“stop” implies to end immediately with no further action, such as a withdrawal or immediate cease fire.
Example: “Stop the car, I want to get out!”
Not a single time has trump said “stop” the violence in Gaza, not once.
Technically that would be “stopping.”
