As @[email protected] and I have said, problematic favorite for sure.
His Common Sense podcast paints him as being ideologically stuck in 2004. Like a George Carlin leftish libertarian who stops at contrarianism and le logic. Hardcore History has been a huge podcast for me but it’s mostly just because it’s like a more realistic historical drama.
Dan’s politics are almost impossible to describe to people who aren’t familiar with him. The best I’ve come up with is “libertarian social democrat who’s also solidly anti-imperialist with a heavy dose of civility politics”.
I meant the Last Pod guys, not actually familiar with their guest.
What makes them problematic? I don’t know about the other two hosts but Ben on Abe Lincoln’s Tophat just seemed like a generic democrat.
Dated accent humor, standard lib takes on politics, and they add a humorous bent to true crime that is riding the line of taste.
I’m saying this as a big fan. I listen to them all the time, but they are definitely white guys in their 40’s raised on South Park. The impression I get I that they are well meaning but with most things.
Edit: as an aside I think Henry is a budding leftist. A few months ago while researching MKUltra he mentioned that he went down a rabbit hole of leftist conspiracy theories, but unlike most conspiracy theories these ones have merit.
“If it weren’t for you guys grounding me I would be living in a cabin like Ted Kaczynski and plotting against the government.”
I’d agree with that. A relic of the era where three white men entering the same room creates a quantum entanglement resulting in a podcast.
Henry’s for sure a budding leftist, he collabed on CTH’s 666 episode
I like Henry, but the drop in episode quality paired with Ben and Marcus’s shit takes eventually made me fall out of it completely.
Yeah I can’t listen to the episodes about Russia, at all.
I haven’t listened to LPOTL in many years but I’m kinda curious about this one.
