      Because it’s a sin.

      That’s literally it. They equate it with sin. The sin of sloth. Not that they think in those terms (filthy Protestant heretics, the lot of them) but it’s taboo because they think of it as stealing, because they don’t see the whole picture, because it’s been deliberately obscured from them their entire lives. If they were to understand just how much was being stolen from them every time they go to work, they’d know who to direct their anger at.

        how do you become so dead that you reject the basic human urge to help other people, to let people help you?

        Individualism has made people think that it’s part of human nature to not help eachother but rather only yourself. It’s depressing how cynical my society has become.

      Right? I’ve been on disability for a decade. I will take literally whatever anyone offers me. Like, someone tells me “hey, you ever need anything, let me know” to be nice or whatever; well, they’re getting hit up, cuz I need shit.
