I was all up in arms until I was prevented from reading a very important article because I didn’t pay for a subscription up front.
Block cookies or use an ad-on that does. Wired has a weak paywall
I have been on the internet before the world wide web was invented, and I still do not use an ad blocker. Not because I don’t understand why people use them, but because I refuse to subscribe to the world that needs them. Kinda why I am on Lemmy, and why I donate a lot of money to keep it going.
EDIT for the younguns: Old man yells at sky.
I dunno man, being born before automobiles wouldn’t exempt you from looking both ways before you cross the street when you live in a world where cars are commonplace 🤷♀️
That’s some folksy wisdom I haven’t heard since the last time a horse neighed at me.
Love your attitude
I love you, Random Internet Stranger!
I don’t wear a seatbelt because I don’t want to live in a world where people need them
-
imagine being crazy enough to think seatbelt and ad blockers would be a good comparison
-
yep, let people do what they want with their own safety, progressives are basically creating fascists.
-
because I refuse to subscribe to the world that needs them.
Can’t see that biting you in the ass, down the way.
Me either. Hasn’t yet.
I will reply to this again, out of sheer obstinance. I’m not made of raw stupid. I have had defense in depth employed for 20 years, if someone had managed to penetrate past the outermost moat, then I would be concerned. That hasn’t happened yet. Until then, keep your opinions to yourself. you yahoo
Yep, that tracks.
Obviously not, if you’re not using an ad blocker…
Except that ad blockers also provide protection against malware, phishing and tracking. Having no ad blocker on is like having a one night stand over and over again without ever using a condom. Might work out for years on end, until you finally get infected
I am raw dogging the internet. Kablooooooooiue
Not sure about all the downvotes. I am finding your curmudgeonly antics pretty entertaining. You keep doing you old friend!
Awwww I don’t mind the downvotes at all my friend. I’m hungry, and I eat them for breakfast. ;)
Your analogies are insane 🤣
I just can’t imagine being riled up and afraid enough any ads that you actually put them in the same category of STD.
Gen z and millennial panic like folks being afraid of D&D.
Oh no! And if this one internet person had just seen this article, the whole problem would have been solved.
Forget the victims, look at how we as society have failed this specific internet person. Shame on us!

You’r basically saying as loud and selfishly as you can that your protest of how shitty the internet is takes precedence over victims of actual sex crimes. Interesting, when you could have just been mildly frustrated and then moved along like the rest of us do.
Or maybe he’s saying the company’s desire for profits took precedence over allowing people to read actual sex crimes and be upset about it.
Plus his first concern was the victims clearly, after having clicked the linka nd being blocked off from accessing it by a paywall. Maybe you should have taken your advice and moved along
“Please look at me, I attempted to care.”
