New around here? Want to introduce yourself? Here’s a thread! Or if that whole practice makes you want to disappear, uh…Make someone up, or introduce your pet instead!

Whatever floats your boat, and hey, if you have a boat, introduce that boat!

Oh, and before I forget (again), I’ve written a relatively brief FAQ to help folks find their way around here.

Hello! I’m 58 from Missouri and I just signed up here tonight. I’m fairly techy. I remember connecting to various BBS while in school with my 24k modem on my Tandy 1000 from Radio Shack. But this is all a bit overwhelming and a little confusing. I’m committed to getting the hang of it all and ditching the other place. Picture of my dog that likes to sit on rocks.

Hey all! I live in the Southern US. I’m an IT director. Hobbies include lifting weights, manga/manhwa/manhua, RPGs (currently running a D&D 5E campaign and playing in an OSRIC campaign), and cooking.

I deleted my Reddit account a few days ago, including all my posts and comments. I’m all in. Lemmy has been fantastic.

Wow it’s crazy having an intro thread - it’s like a forum from 25 years ago! I love Lemmy feeling quite small and welcoming like this, awesome.

I am in the UK, have followed through various platforms since the 90s. I am old and sensible as my grown up screen name suggests.

I write and play a lot of table top roleplaying games (TTRPGs)!

I kid, but welcome! Speaking of TTRPGs, have you seen where some of these are on Itch.io these days? I’ve never gotten into them myself (not much for RPGs personally, and I don’t have a tabletop group to play with), but I’ve found some of the art & settings interesting!

There are so many on itch - I have my games on there! The indie TTRPG scene is thriving and bigger than ever - I play mostly online, and Discord is a huge part of that nowadays. Very active communities!

Hello. Was on Reddit for 10 years and been here six days now. I’m here mostly for science, news, fiction, games and finding new stuff. Got over the urge to look at Reddit already, but am taking this new poison. The fediverse with its different instances gives a feeling of smaller communities comming together which is both true and nice.

    Hello world.

I mostly do tabletop hobby projects, I’ve got both a huge backlog to post and some new stuff coming up. I also do generally creative projects including worldbuilding a little scifi space adventure universe that I started way back when I needed to keep myself sane at work.

I’m here to add as much original content as I can for quality.

Hello 👋 I will first introduce my 10 year old cat Simba. He loves going outside and smell trees and flowers. He do not like to play for long because he hates losing. Loves cuddles and is very social with everyone. He sleeps a lot too close by 😂

And my self (with out Pic).

I am a developer. I like reading Manga and manhwa, play games, do any kind of physical activity with others. I also seem to like lemmy a lot because I have never written this much publicly before.

    Thanks for having me :D

Simba’s beautiful, and that’s a cute pic. That’s how my and my significant other’s cat is, he loves to lay on our keyboards when we’re working or gaming. There’s nothing quite like having a pet in close proximity to spam the F1 Help button when they’re sleepy.

oooh he helps me deleting and writing a lot. He really likes laying his head on the keyboard so i put my hand under his head acting like a pillow. I have become pretty fast at writing with only one hand because of that 😂

Hello there! I’m a fellow Reddit refugee that quit after 10 years when Apollo shut down. I’ve got two very silly pups named Pippin and Sunny, a tortoise named Bowser, and a gerbil named Oreo.

I’ve been gaming since the 80’s and haven’t slowed down a bit. I’m currently playing WoW, Diablo 4, Tears of the Kingdom and Final Fantasy 16. I’d have to say that my favorite games of all time are Portal 1 and 2. I’m a big nerd and I love Legos, movies, books, art and ice cold martinis.

I’m very happy to be here :)

Hi, I’m WhyTrashEarth… I want to make people happy, improve our Earth, and explore Lemmy.World… I’m always here to help my friends so feel free to ask! I have lots of friends who use/used reddit, never really understood the appeal of it… However, I figured I’d try Lemmy out. I learned about this site because of MentalOutlaw from YouTube. Hello Lemmy World!

👋 - Have mostly been lurking various lemmy instances (beehaw, lemmy.world, …) and finally decided on creating an account here! Looks like I will need to create multiple accounts though due to defederation on some instances. No biggie, lol.

Hope to contribute content here and keep lemmy alive and well even as Reddit management is threatening many subreddits to open back up.

Well ok… I’m an old timer who’s been around the ‘net since the days of dialup, when FIDO and local BBSs were the Next Big Thing. I’ve always preferred to avoid corporate services, and the Late Unpleasantness on the alien site and the bird site have only made me more sure that’s the right stance.

Other than that, I’ve been a Trekkie forever. I love sci-fi, fantasy, and the paranormal. I enjoy a good ghost story, a smooth scotch, and a vintage fountain pen. Coffee is liquid gold. Everything else is subject to change without notice.

Hello! I’m also from Reddit, for like 11yrs. I usually don’t post anything online ever, but I am going to try to contribute here sometimes. :) My hobbies/interests are anything Pokémon, arts and crafts, reading, TV, gaming, cats, cooking, plants, Critical Role and paranormal/true crime podcasts. I have 2 doofy cats, Loki and Xandis. Currently, I am super duper excited for Baldur’s Gate 3! Also excited to make hopefully the best potato salad I’ve ever made tomorrow.

Yess! :) Astonishing Legends is what really got me into paranormal podcasts! They have good host chemistry, it’s fun to listen to them. They go on tangents a lot. Highly recommend the Mothman, Black Eyed Kids and Vertical Plane episodes! And That’s Why We Drink is fun, it’s a couple of friends, one tells a paranormal story, one tells a true crime story. This Paranormal Life is sillier, they take turns telling each other paranormal stories, then they vote on whether they think it’s real or not. Haunted Road - host tells a story about a place, then speaks to someone who works there and they discuss what they’ve experienced there, or what guests have experienced. Scared To Death - a couple tell each other scary stories, and try to scare each other. Spooked - different people telling their paranormal stories every episode. This one is usually really well made, the stories are really interesting! Used to be mostly a premium subscription podcast, but is now free!

Thanks! <madly scribbling on the podcast list>

I know And That’s Why We Drink and Haunted Road. They’ve gotten off the radar in a podcatcher move a couple of years ago. I’ll have to check out the others.

Do you ever catch The Ghost Story Guys or Unexplained? Wild Thing is also pretty good; it’s produced by a couple of former NPR reporter/producers. For true crime, what do you think of The Opportunist?

          How’s the potato salad? ;)

I do have Wild Thing in my subscribed podcasts, but I don’t know if I’ve listened yet, going to download some eps! It turned out great! Homemade mayo! :D

Season one of The Opportunist is a multipart documentary about a single person. It would be hard to make episode recommendations, although any of the one- and two-shot stories in the second season are good. The Ghost Story Guys best episodes are late season one and anything up to the end of 2020. In January 2021, one of the hosts was replaced and the show format became a lot looser and much longer.

Homemade mayo is the best! Especially if it’s made with bacon grease rather than another oil. :)

                  You’re welcome.

We found bacon grease mayo by accident when we discovered that there was no olive oil in the pantry. It’s one of the go-to versions now.
