  • Capitalism once again destroying everything it touches. The techbros think money = success = personal worth because capitalism ties a person’s value to how much profit they generate. Because the techbros have six figure salaries and college educations, they think they’re the pinnacle of intellectualism. Teachers get looked down on because they don’t make money, therefore the techbro is smarter than teachers.

And once you’re the smartest person that can exist, why do anything more? Why bother reading or making art? Why bother understanding philosophy or people who led political movements? You’re inherently superior and therefore an expert on those subjects because (again) you make more money than the people involved in that stuff.

It’s especially comforting to subpar failsons who were dipshits growing up and finally found something they were good at. But rather than having some humility, they gloat about how everyone who doubted them was wrong.

  • Question 1: I’ve played a lot of weird stuff over the years. Probably Maze’s End, Glittering Wish Midrange, or Sea Stompy for unconventional decks.

Question 2: One of the weirdest that comes to mind was this sick Modern 5-color Elemental deck revolving around Incandescent Soulstoke, Nova Chaser, Smoke Braider, and Soulbright Flamekin. This was before the Simian Spirit Guide ban, so it was possible to get domed by a turn 2 Thorn Elemental. The “champion” mechanic let him keep any large fatties around after cheating them into play. Was a really spicy deck.

Question 3: I really, really want to make the Turing Machine deck and see if I can get it up and running before I die.

  • Adding on to this, you should show them videos on YouTube that were proven false. One example I can think of is Joey Salah’s video about Trump cars being vandalized in black neighborhoods. People not part of his video caught the video on film from other angles. There’s one where you can see Salah talking to a group of people, who all ended up being the “vandals” in the video. Turns out, he hired a bunch of black actors under false pretenses, got the footage of them smashing cars with Trump bumper stickers, then edited all together to look like they were random people.

The whole thing got exposed and there’s videos of it explaining the whole thing. You can show your kids how footage can be edited to reinforce biases (in this example: “black people are violent and will attack you or your property for any reason”) and how sites like YouTube use content like this to generate revenue through controversy.

Project Veritas is another. It was also an early adopter of deep fakes, using them to make people say things they didn’t. Deep fakes of politicians saying stuff would be another example. The Biden-Vaporeon copy pasta is a hoot (probably not age appropriate for 9-year-olds. I dunno. I’m only an uncle).

  • Generals in the US back in 2002 and 2003 were advising we’d need at least 4 million troops to occupy Iraq. We had 4 million troops worldwide including support personnel when we invaded. Lo and behold, the thing they were warning about happened. We wiped out Iraq’s military in just a few weeks, but then had no way of dealing with the insurgency or helping civilians get their lives back to normal. Entire cities without water or power for months, making them prime real estate for insurgents to occupy.

Make no mistake, the US will do the same stupid shit we did 20 years ago. The same mistakes made during Desert Storm and Vietnam were never learned from going into 9/11 and the 2003 invasion. Pure adventurism on behalf of the US government.
