I never considered the second point. Holy hell US lawmakers are captured by special interests

10·1 month agoWhen people aren’t coherent it’s too easy in a big city to dismiss them.
If a stranger reached out saying “Hey!..I’m feeling… Nine one…” while stumbling sweating and trailing off I’d like to think I’d stop and help, but I can also see how others would habitually keep their distance from a stranger acting out of the ordinary; and how they might not hear them fully and walk on their way before the person in distress can finish their sentence.
Definitely a teachable moment.

News@lemmy.world•Sir Keir Starmer is expected to announce plans for a compulsory UK-wide digital ID scheme in a speech on Friday.
3·1 month agoIf done well, a government opperated digital ID could be very beneficial for society. Having a way to securely sign into different platforms using a trustless authenticator (that only shares the information you approve of) with a third party could be great.
Imagine signing onto a news site and knowing that every comment is actually a real person from your community and not a bot or a targeted influence campaign pushing an agenda.
The website doesn’t have to know your name, the government doesn’t have to know your username or track your activity, all what’s shared is that you’re an adult citizen from a particular region.
My only problem is I don’t exactly trust that it would be setup in this sort of ideal way.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you ever feel full and hungry simultaneously?
41·2 months agoSome possible reasons:
Nutritional factors:
-
Lack of protein, fiber, or healthy fats, which help promote satiety
-
Highly processed foods that are calorie-dense but nutrient-poor
-
Blood sugar spikes and crashes from refined carbohydrates
-
Insufficient micronutrients, though this is less likely to cause immediate hunger
Other common causes:
-
Dehydration - thirst is sometimes mistaken for hunger
-
Habit or routine - eating at certain times regardless of actual hunger
-
Emotional eating - stress, boredom, or other emotions triggering food cravings
-
Sleep deprivation - disrupts hormones that regulate hunger (ghrelin and leptin)
-
Eating too quickly - not giving your brain time to register fullness (takes about 20 minutes)
-
Certain medications or medical conditions
Food composition matters: Foods high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats tend to keep you satisfied longer, while foods high in refined sugars and simple carbs can leave you feeling hungry soon after eating, even if you consumed plenty of calories.
If this is happening regularly, it might be worth tracking what you eat and how you feel afterward to identify patterns, or consulting with a healthcare provider if you’re concerned about underlying issues.

NOT IN MY BACK INTERIOR ENCLAVE
Avoiding alcohol, sleeping on your side, and losing weight (if overweight)… can all make a big difference and none require spending money. (Source: my snoring used to bother my wife).
Okay, then at the very least when you walk in you should declare your intention to not tip. Still shitty towards the server that gets stuck with you, but now it causes conflict amongst the staff and brings the issue to a head.
The tipping system is fucked, but that doesn’t at all change the fact that it’s baked into the system. EVERYONE (in that moment) expects you to to tip; so if you don’t, you’re effectively stealing from the server.
If you don’t want to tip, your only options are to either not eat out at restaurants, or to find restaurants that have “Hospitality Included” service (a trend which I’m thankful to see growing – albeit slowly).

I was with you up until aliexpress.
There’s definitely junk on there, but if you look for high purchase volume plus good ratings you’ll get plenty of high quality stuff (minus the middle-man markup).
