But that would require them to reign in the very same companies that sponsor them. One can hope, but it seems unlikely.

Isn’t “heavier” only used when describing weight and not mass?
Because that’s a good canary to show the article wasn’t AI written?
Wait, for real? So The Shrike from Hyperion might actually be named after this bird?
A shame that this comes out after Samsung stopped making functional hardware
One of the biggest culture shocks as a Danish person visiting California, was seeing how normalised driving high was. I smoke pretty regularly, but I would never even think about getting behind the wheel after a single puff.
Shrike? Does it collect its victims by impaling them on a giant metal tree?
This sounds like a BoJack Horseman bit
Apple is powered by the copium of their fanbase, so maybe the next model won’t even need a power cable.
Hopeing this will lead to consent laws in France like the ones in Scandinavia. Then at least one good thing will come of this horrible story.
Imagine a world where we had politicians who understood technology enough to put proper rules and requirements in place, so that big dumb companies would actually be forced to act ethically and sustainably…
Then force him to read Dune and make him understand the Butlerian Jihad
I was having lunch at a restaurant a couple of months back, and overheard two women (~55 y/o) sitting behind me. One of them talked about how she used ChatGPT to decide if her partner was being unreasonable. I think this is only gonna get more normal.
Don’t travel to South America then. Seems like the norm to play out loud from your phone there, no matter your age. I once sat at a restaurant in Colombia, where the restaurant was playing loud music, and every other table had someone also playing their own music or TikToks from their phone. I felt like a crazy person being the only one seemingly annoyed by it.
You cannot honestly say the addictive pull of social media and games today is the same as it was back then. That’s like saying weed and heroin are equally addictive.
This game is already worth every cent in its current state. Can’t wait to see what the last polish will bring.
The phones weren’t designed to get you addicted to them back then. I am a teacher, and if I had to start every class by convincing all student who didn’t put their phones in the phone-locker to do it, then I would have no time left for teaching. I have pivoted to making classroom assignments that students have to complete using their phones instead, and it’s working wonders.
I feel you. Sorry you had to go through that experience.
Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds. I am usually a huge SciFi fan, but I like the genre for it’s ability to reflect on humanity by extrapolating on current technologies/trends or comparing our culture to unique alien ones.
Revelation Space was technobabble and descriptions of weapons for pages upon pages, and it was totally devoid of any philosophy or reflection on humanity. I never DNF a book, but this one I almost gave up on.
Some More News will do a livestream of the results. They are usually on point with their analysis and sources.
