  • Cash is absolute king.

Every payday you pay yourself cash…leaving a the amount in your account for monthly bills, gas etc.

Because cash is so inconvenient to use, it’s easier to save, and that takes training. Want a new TV? That cash stash is over here and when you have enough you will look at it and ask yourself…do I reeeealy want it?

It took me 3 months saving tips and also selling my Xbox at the end of that time to splurge on a steam deck. Worth it.

My wife used to budget cash for me out of my check, and that suited me judt fine (she handled the household budgeting) and I was able to buy gifts without anything showing up on our account, get myself things without trying to figure out if I was over spending, and save up for mods for my then hobby driving offroad and camping.

Cash is king, and your brain needs training .

  • IMO what the latest generations are missing out on is the absolute randomness of on air TV.

TV used to be flipping through channels until something caught your attention, even if it isn’t or wasn’t what you were in the mood for and absolutely finding it interesting/a good watch.

We caught ourselves this last vacation chilling at our rental watching an old (late 90s) movie we haven’t seen in a long time and it clicked for me: our kids curate thier own watchlists and looking at a thumbnail or reading the description isn’t the same as coming across a show a quarter of the way through trying to figure out whats going on and staying until the end.

A bit of a boomer take, but it’s an experience im close enough to be one to make.
