  • I think the requirement for “have to be stated it as a political position” caveat is rooted in malice which has historically skewed the discussion in favor of controlling the narrative in the interest of the agenda at hand, in this case is blind support for Israel.

I remember having to use the same set of qualifiers back in the day during the “War on Terror”, when arguing that mass bombing campaigns would only lead to more extremism. I’d have to state that I didn’t “support terrorism” and the idea was to have an objective discussion around the policies in question.

It’s a tact to suppress valid criticism and garner support.

It was apparent then and it’s apparent now. We cannot have open discussions in the interest of actual progress when folks are implicated into a myopic tribal view of the situation for having an opinion that goes against the common narrative.

  • Even accepting your numbers,

I see where this is going already… wow

why is the blame entirely on Biden for this

Because he’s the one signing multibillion dollar aid packages with our tax dollars funding a genocide and literally ignoring calls for ceasefire. I mean, the only way you don’t know that is if you’re living under a rock.

Biden is literally the only reason aid has gotten through again after the Israeli blockade, Biden is the only reason Israel is practicing any restraint at all, Biden is the only reason that there’s even a hope of a ceasefire or lasting peace.

You must not know how much influence the US has over Israel. It literally takes one phone call to reign in Israel and Netanyahu to stop their reign genocidal campaign. The US has repeatedly shot down Palestinian voices calling for a peace deal, recognizing Palestinian UN membership, ICC votes on investigating war crimes and trialing Netanyahu. Biden is the only reason why this has dragged on for 7 months. This could have been over on literally any day after Oct 7th. Rafah was supposed to Biden’s “red line” and now that’s being invaded as well. Some job working towards peace. As an example, see how the US reacted (it literally said Israel was on it’s own) when Israel wanted to “retaliate” against Iran for launching attacks on it’s airspace and how Israel piped down against Iran whilst “vowing” to retaliate.

Seems really like you should be blaming the far right government actually carrying out the war, and not the centre-left government an ocean away whose been trying to walk the line between scolding Netanyahu at every turn, and also trying not to piss off the 60% of the country that supports Israel.

Seems like you really should be reading up more on how influential US foreign policy really is instead of clinging to democratic talking points meant to deflect from complicity in this event.

  • This. This is what it boils down to. This is why Pakistan and India keep getting away with the shit they pull along with all other nuclear nations. The moment Iran claims nuclear capable, “restraint” will be shown. With the amount of back channel communication that’s been happening between the US and Iran over the Gaza and Israel situation, it’s very likely they already have shown their hand and ability to be nuclear, and therefore the calculus is now extremely complex compared to something like Iraq and Afghanistan.

This also explains why Iran demonstrated and telegraphed their attack the way they did and the US agreed to it, despite the “Iran is the devil” rhetoric being perpetuated worldwide.

Hate to say it, but might is right and has always been.

Edit: To add, if they admit they are nuclear capable publicly, they are inviting more sanctions and another escalation which is the last thing they need given the state of their economy. They will also be on the back foot because Israel gets the moral high ground for being right about their nuclear ambitions.
