Are you looking to acquire ROMs to make a personal archive yourself or submit ROMs to Vimm’s Lair so that they can be archived?

If it’s the former there are better sites out there for downloading complete sets. You can check the megathread (check the sidebar) but using Internet Archive in combination with a reputable download manager is usually what people do. Myrient is relatively new and seems good as well.

Vimm’s Lair is better suited for downloading individual very specific titles.

ex. the North Korean version 1.02 of Shrek 5: The Swampening for the Super Playstation

If it’s the latter each console’s page has a section that lists what games are missing and their hash values. If yours match you can simply compress and send it.

You might want to check out curated collections like Tiny Best Set. It will cut out a large amount of low-tier titles.

If you are into reviews and box art I feel like the easiest option would be to look at ES-DE, LaunchBox, or RetroArch depending on your device.

It seems like you are looking for some kind of middle ground between sets and individually picking ROMs so I am not sure.

I also don’t know what you meant by “don’t know what romsets are real or not”.

Most of the time that should be very easy to filter out. Was it not tagged with Unl (Unlicensed) or Pirate in brackets after the ROM name?

It’s the same thing you would usually do to delete ROMs in foreign languages.

That said there are a lot of unlicensed homebrew games out there that are genuinely great like Micro Mage for the NES
