I dont care enough to piece out the timelines, but in general, my life was in a better place during the Trump years. Part of that is because of shit I did myself, part of that was the economy.
I did not know this but makes sense: according to my partner, when unemployment is down, inflation goes up and when unemployment is up, inflation goes down. Makes sense if there is less money circulating, right? So that may be part of why shit had skyrocketed under Biden, unemployment was super duper low I guess. Plus all of the price fixing and shit but that likely would’ve happened regardless. I haven’t fact checked the unemployment numbers tho
The rules of thumb to do with inflation don’t have much to do with what happened in the las few years. Inflation skyrocketed under Biden because COVID (and to a lesser extent, the Russia-Ukraine war) gave retailers an excuse to hike prices. Something like half of inflation from 2020-2022 was just corporations fleecing the common person because they knew people would buy it.
This is definitely the hugest contributing factor which is why I mentioned price fixing as well. Tons of different factors but I’m sure all big business owners were rubbing their hands together in delight at the thought of taking advantage of the pandemic
