In uncertain times people cling to rules even more. To contrast the insanity of the world with a something familiar. To just “do your job” even when your entire institution has been subverted and twisted. It was like that in Germany, too.

These motherfuckers, sitting there with their useless signs while the orange man rants and raves and belittles them. It’s goddamn embarrassing and disillusioning. They should’ve stood up with representative Al Green and walked out in solidarity when he was ushered out by the sergeant at arms. Bitches. Bitches all around.

Congress was in session, that day March 4th it took no less than 80 actions, and Republicans can only afford to lose one person’s vote if every Democrat votes nay.

People leaving is the same as giving Republicans to pass whatever they want.

We did the right thing by abstaining. We sent a message to the Democrats. We cost them the win, and they took genocide off the party platform. In fact, Kamala Harris is starting a movement to impeach Donald Trump. We did it!

They aren’t doing a satire of a communist specifically, just a generic lefty activist protest voter. Not all of those are communists, and not all communists are protest voters/non-voters.

Pretty much everyone you are talking to voted Democrat. You know who didn’t? People whose families were murdered by US munitions.

You know who also didn’t? The mythical anti-trump Republican voters who the Biden/Kamala campaign exclusively tried to win over.

Maybe instead of getting mad at people calling out the Democrats losing strategy you should get mad at Republicans who are destroying everything and the feckless Democrats who learned nothing from this last election.

Statistically at least some of us here didn’t, and that’s extra true for Lemmy in general. Millions of people who voted for Biden in 2020 didn’t show up in 2024. Trump’s numbers hardly changed at all, but the former DNC voters stayed home in absolutely massive numbers.

I’m sure some of them regret it, but depicting the only party that gives any fucks about them being hung by their necks is probably not the way to go about fixing this.

Yeah, my reply was too brief & misunderstandable, so let me 'splain.

We need to stop deluding ourselves into thinking there’s a political solution to what Trump, Musk, and the Republicans are doing. There’s not.

Most Americans have been thoroughly misinformed and won’t care about the destruction of democracy until the repercussions smack them personally in the face, but by then the coup will be completed. Dems in Congress will not spontaneously evolve spines. I’m out there picketing, but only for my conscience and mental health, not because I imagine the fascists will hear us and yield. They won’t.

Politics as usual is finished in America. We will be left with whatever rights Trump & Musk decide we should have, which won’t be much and won’t be up for ‘debate’. The current dismantling of America will lead to violence, which I neither want nor call for, and which I’m too old, weak, and generally chickenshit to participate in. The violence is going to happen, though, with the police, the military, and the un-regulated militia against we the people who hope for freedom, and we will lose. After that, reconstructing democracy in America will take generations of struggle and bloodshed.

It’s moot and silly to talk of ‘fixing this’ via elections or reforming the Democratic Party. That ship has sailed and sunk. America, 1776-2025, RIP.

You can be critical of the democratic party and still have voted for them. You can think they have their heads so far up their ass that they are walking around inside out, and still have voted for them.

Some of us hate the Democratic party in it’s current state and want nothing more than to over turn it and “drain the swamp” but realize they are unfortunately the only safe option. That doesn’t mean they don’t need to change.

Don’t get me wrong, I supported and voted for the Democrats. But currently? They seem like a bunch of pussies letting the Republican party cuck them of our democratic nation because they’re unwilling to be more ruthless. Uncivility and the breaking of precedent by the Republicans, should be met and pursued by with absolute cold efficiency and opportunism by the current Democratic party, in order to protect us, their constituents. They aren’t doing that though, and seem to even be capitulating and bending the knee to Republicans.

Let’s be clear here: they were like that before we voted for them, too. But we held our noses and did it anyway, because – unlike the “genocide Joe” concern trolls – we both understood what was at stake and weren’t covertly supporting it.

After the past seven weeks you can’t be serious. Nazi USA sending people to concentration camps, making being trans illegal, freezing all foreign aid, putting an unelected billionaire in charge of dismantling government programs so billionaires can get even more tax breaks, and sending the economy into a huge recession, while supporting the complete genocide of Palestine and leaving Ukraine to Russia == tepid support for Israel’s genocide and none of the rest of those things.

You all get that there are still a lot of elected Democrats right? I know the Democratic party has operated for the last 20 years as if the presidency is the literal only thing they need to bother to run for, but there are actual elected officials that we expect to Serve the People. Which I know is a shocker to you liberals because anything that’s not serving solely the interest of the bankers is probably upsetting to you.
