What brought this to mind was thinking about John Carpenter’s 1982 movie The Thing and how there was Christian Nyby’s The Thing from Another World which released in 1951 that not a lot of people know about.

Another question could be what movies/TV shows do people not realize were adapted from the same material? For example the 1954 book I Am Legend was adapted into I Am Legend (2007), The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Night of the Living Dead (1968) and The Omega Man (1971). There’s a lot of room to get into semantics there however.
