I’m excited to announce that my wife’s cat and I have reached a tentative mateship after 4 years. She’s never “hated” me, but she’s always made it pretty clear where I stand with her and that Mrs B is her preferred human. But somethings started to soften, she likes my kid so I think she’s decided I’m alright based on that. She’s even started coming to find me for pats.
The bitch of it all? She’s not even my wife’s cat! I’m the one who said “we can’t leave her here! No ones even looking at her! We have to bring her home.” But nope, Mrs b got all the credit and love.

    Cats: man’s okayest friend.

Cops finally got in touch - investigating officer was unaware of the earlier break-ins and you could practically hear her jaw dropping over the phone.
Trainned it down and went to a couple of other OFIs on the same street as well as touching base with the agents who were holding another - places were nice enough but smaller.
Other party put in another bid at the top of the asking range while I was waiting. Agent advised me to wait over the weekend before I make any decisions about another bid. Will sleep on it before I decide whether to make one final bid or drop out of the bidding - even the estate agent who initially said “it’d be a shame to lose the property over $30k” said “it’s getting a bit steep.”.

No idea why I thought it’d be different, but I did my 7 day covid retest and it was instantly positive, like the minute the liquid hit the little thingy.

Really just want the contagious window to end so I can start taking care of myself and leave my bedroom, seven days is a long time to be stuck in a shoebox of a bedroom, even if I can’t do much with myself.

I think I’ve asked this before but anyway I know you like period dramas. Have you watched The Village? It’s a true story set in ww1. It’s on SBS on demand and it’s very good.

      Get well soon banana.

Yes! I originally tuned in for Maxine Peake but soon found myself really sucked into it. Sort of reminded me of Home Fires which was brilliant (still mad they cancelled it)!

Maxine Peake is such a good actress. I loved Home Fires too.

Lark Rise to Candleford, Cranford, All Creatures great and small, Land Girls, Parades End, My Mother And Other Strangers, World On Fire are a few more that I’ve watched and liked.

And of course there’s all those turn back time documentaries that are great to watch.

Yes!! All of those are so good, espcially Lark Rise and ACGAS (both versions, although the new one kinda wins out by a little because I love Anna Madeley, Samuel West, and Callum Woodhouse) just so fkn cosy, they make me feel all warm and toasty inside.

You’ve probably seen it, but The Durrells is 10/10 period drama, everything about it is excellent!

The Durrells is a good watch. The book was good too. And The Larkins which was somehow connected to the Darling Buds Of May. Well you’re like me who loves this stuff. All I can recommend now are books that are similar.

Nella Last and Helen Forrester are 2 authors that wrote books that are some of the best reads I’ve ever read.

I’ve had both of those authors recommended to me before. I’ve been looking for my next read since I didn’t line anything up after an indugent reread of Phillip Pullmans’ series, so maybe I might make a start with those. In saying that I have a sneaky suspicion that I read The Latchkey Kid by Forrester many moons ago.

Oh, I am still very much visibly and physically sick, and would not have a good time if I left my bed. But just having the option to make my own food and leave my bedroom if I wanted to would be nice.

Awww this is so sweet, thank you! But apart from being bed ridden I am also on a completely liquid/puree diet, covid decided to decimate every inch of me in retaliation for missing it for so long, and as a result my mouth is a giant ulcer fest.

ok whatcha wanna do is chuck a roomy a $20 and get them to nip to the chemist and get this. MAKE SURE THEY GET THE JELLY AND NOT THE OINTMENT

Ignore the circumcision thing, the jelly is perfectly fine for oral use as well. That shit meant that I was able to eat when my entire mouth was a giant weeping sore due to chemo complications

Lemmy is trying to help stop me procrastinating and refusing to let me log in to my Aussie.zone account on the computer. I’m going to show it that my procrastination cannot be stopped so easily and clean out the cat litter tray. The things we do when we should be studying. 🤣

Procrastination achieved, so I’m taking a break from all that tiring procrastination. Cat’s litter box has been cleaned out, I did a bit more zucchini wrangling and the cucumber has been introduced to its new climbing frame (a clothes airer I picked up from hard rubbish this morning). My brain really really does not want to focus on this assignment. I was hoping to have a rough draft done by now, but I’ve barely touched it.

Is it bourbon, is it whiskey,
Is it rum, hold the cola?
    Orange juice with vodka,
    (I think it’s called “mimosa.”)
Sniff and sip an Irish islay,
Hold the ice, I like it straight.
Taste the peat, feel the burn,
Only for whiskey do I yearn.

Why is the old kitten fussy?

She didn’t seem to like the flavour of wet food I opened and despite adding yummy toppings doesn’t want to eat it (so is skimping on taking her medicine). I syringed the pain meds into her mouth last night but gave her anti nausea meds today and keep trying to get her to eat the breakfast.

She keeps jumping up on the wardrobe door to demand attention but won’t lead me to anything to show what’s wrong. She’s already done a poo which got scooped away fast, has clean litterboxes, fresh water, the biscuits got shaken to fix the bowl hole she ate into them, wet food right there…

Maybe she’s just bored of the food and feels bad after not having enough of her meds that were mixed in.

She has now patted at me until I let her lie on me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does anyone know of an accurate way to measure actual data usage? The amount Telstra is telling me I’m using is way higher than I think it should be, and is much higher than the total amount my devices are measuring.

At the moment I’ve disconnected everything from the Telstra modem and am going through the phone as a mobile hotspot. I’ve recorded the data totals both services are showing me so I can compare the amounts over a few days, then will swap back and do the same. If anyone has a better approach please let me know.

Can you log into the router or modem and see if they’ve got inbuilt data tracking? Often: https://192.168.0.1 click in a web browser on your home network. Also look on the stickers on the hardware to see if there’s a different address. it might also look like 10.0.0.1. It’d be worth checking if there’s a network device table in there to make sure you know what each device is.

The modem shows the same data as Telstra - and it also shows how much I have left on my data plan, so either it is sourcing it’s data from Telstra or vice versa. It is a 5g modem and has connection info directly on the modem, which includes what devices are logged in. I did find my old iPad was still plugged in and connected, but I turned that off a few days ago with no change, and there are no other unexplained devices.

I initially assumed I had an app or something chewing through extra data (like that time I installed the official Reddit app) but there are no apps showing as using much data and after going through any settings I can find to limit things like auto-play video, changing browsers to Firefox to block adds and trying to minimise time spent in pointless scrolling the data use has gone up not down. My tablet is calculating my usage as generally around 40-60gb a month, and probably close to half of that would be on the work wi-fi. But telstra has me at about 70gb and I can’t figure out why.

Obviously it is a low data amount anyway so it’s not really a major financial issue, but it is bugging me that it does not match up.
