    Nice.

Step 2: Make the meals actually healthy instead of garbage food prepared by the lowest-bid contractor.

When I see comments like this I always have to wonder… so, you don’t oppose the government using it’s resources to support the well-being of it’s citizens. So then what is making you conservative? Your desire to oppose other fundamental rights and liberties of others? Wanting corporations to continue to steal from the wealth of the many for the sake of unimaginable wealth for the few? A fear of others who freely exist with other values then your own and the inability to cope with their success? Or thrive in their perils as a way to compensate for the inadequacies you feel in your own life? The desire to maintain the status quo of women and minorities being subservient to old white men? To control other people’s bodies or worrying an unhealthy amount about their genitals and what they do with them?

So… what exactly is conservatism to you then? Because what they listed is things most current American conservatives would agree with.

Yeah, but that means what they’re doing isn’t a dealbreaker for you. So you may not agree with them cutting funds from education, cutting taxes on the wealthy and corporations, voting no on providing free school lunch, or taking away abortion rights, but it doesn’t bother you enough to change your vote.

So why would they change what they’re doing? It’s clearly working for them in a lot of places.

Edited to add: Democrats don’t have the votes to pass abortion rights at the federal level.

        Small steps.

Implementation doesn’t have to be perfect on the first go. And arguing over every detail is what lead to many of these programs being cancelled.

In all likelihood the food that was served came from a corporation that also feeds the prisons and jails, like Aramark.

Providing fresh and nutritious food is “too expensive”, so they put out a bid for a complete and cost-effective food service. Corporation picks it up. Due to corporations being legally required to make profit, they make the food as cheap as possible. End result is kids getting overly processed food that meets the minimum legal requirements, comes in a bag that is boiled or microwaved, and is very profitable for the investors.

Meanwhile the children of the people who make the decisions and who make money off those decisions go to a private school that is subsidized by everybody’s taxes and provide fresh made healthy meals.

All part of our lovely corrupt system of governance.

      Its more like:

All Conservatives: “How can we give away this trash food for free!? Think of the children!? We have to put a high price on it so it’s harder for children to get!!!”

Don’t our taxes pay for it? Don’t other civilized countries already do this? So how is it framed as “free?” We should already have these policies implemented. Republicans made this country into a joke.

It’s just how the media paints it. “Look at these freeloaders, it’s free!” No, we paid for it. Which makes it doubly insulting to see Republicans try to take away what we already own.

Christ that headline is so depressing.

This can and should be a federal thing. You’d think indebting kids for basic nourishment would be worth threatening to block appropriations for war or something, but it’s not.
