    One of the most ultimate proofs against God for me actually. That right there is one of the single most pure human beings this planet has ever known and he was rewarded with cancer.

    that’s the difference between preaching faith, secularism and atheism.

    Mr Rogers is secular, on his show while being a preacher in a church. Secular things don’t haveto be atheist; just be presented in a way with no requirement of relying on a particular religious faith.

    Mr Rogers was a muhfuckin treasure. Stood before a hostile congress and won them over with sheer wholesomeness. PBS would likely not exist without that landmark testimony.

            It’s wild, an actual minister who dedicated his life to teaching compassion and empathy, evil. That really does tell me everything I need to know about them. I grew up on Mr. Roger’s, like others have said, the man was a Saint. They knew what they were saying was a lie. They’re propagandists, projecting again; they’re the evil ones.

              To me this is wholly unsurprising. That the mouthpiece for the party most for the suffering of Humanity as a whole would demonize an effective force for empathy, kindness, and humanity. Just one of many cases of accusations on their parts in place being confessions.

      I wish he won them over. He beat them. They couldn’t well vote against it after his testimony could they, otherwise everyone would have known then what a bunch of trash conservatives are.

    Everything you need to know about Fox News can be summed up by watching the clip of them calling him evil. Mr won’t you be my goddamn neighbor is an evil person in their view, and that’ll teach you to recognize screaming hot projection.

        First time I saw it I was incensed, now it’s just my reference for anytime people bring him up. I have a lot of right wing family….they are yet to be convinced. If you’re not sold on being a good neighbor, then that’s on you. That man and his sweaters are gospel

    If ever there was a salesperson for Christianity. It’s possible to be a Christian and fully understand that they’re just stories, not real. The religion is the adherence to being generous, kind, and patient.

    If you build it, they will come.

    Build a life of character, love, compassion, kindness, and respect, that is. And we still admire the man for his teachings.

    Unfortunately religions build power structures for control, wealth, exclusivity, hypocrisy, and repressive dogma. That’s why people are leaving.

    You don’t need to invoke the name if you are living out the concept for all to see.

    The Bible has a phrase: judge by the fruits - and it works for Trump the same as it does Rogers.

    e.g., look at how George Lucas treated Star Wars (even before Disney bought it, though notably he’s the one who sold it to them) and what happened to that franchise, whereas Gene Roddenberry creator of Star Trek was a god among men, leaving an enduring legacy long after he died.

    i.e. it’s not the source, it’s the message that is worthwhile (yes that’s also there too - Isaiah 55:11:-P).

      This is a description of what happens in that episode:

      Fred Rogers’ religious foundation becomes apparent in this episode as he hears an explanation of what a pretzel represents: Originally, pretzels were “given to children for knowing prayers” in Germany. As they are made, pretzels are first shaped “like a great big U. Take one [side] and cross it over the other. This is to represent children’s arms praying to God. Then we take one and fold over the other. That represents your parents – mom and dad. We pick up the ends and fold them on back.” When Mister Rogers asks if there always has to be three holes in a pretzel, he is told that the three holes represent the Holy Trinity.

      It sounds to me like religion is discussed, but no one is told what to believe. Just why a pretzel is that shape. It doesn’t seem especially different than hearing any other myth. I’m guessing that little kids might want to know why a pretzel is the shape it is and that is the reason.

      I wouldn’t count it at teaching kids about anything but why a pretzel is a pretzel shape.

        Their radio ads are worse, but I couldn’t find a link. Little kids talking about how they learned they only want friends who are “self-sufficient.”

        It’s literally brainwashing kids into aspirational sociopathy.

      There are charter schools around me that literally advertise how they teach kids NOT to befriend people who can’t help themselves (Challenger Schools).

      I’m seriously not seeing how you managed to get that out of the page you linked. It says, as an example, that they won’t force their students to pretend to be friends, because they should be able to decide that for themselves. It doesn’t say that they instruct them not to be friends or in any way discourage genuine friendship.

        As I replied to another, their radio ads are even worse, and have little kids that don’t know what they’re saying saying point blank they learned they only want friends who are self-sufficient.

        Basically a sociopath factory.

          Perhaps you could share a reference that supports your accusations? So far the only points made against the schools have been backed by nothing but hearsay. If you’re going to go around calling them “sociopath factories” you’ll need more to support that than your second-hand interpretation of an ad you claim you heard and a link describing how they teach their students to respect others’ rights.

            This isn’t court and I can talk about my life experiences in a casual setting without sourcing them in apa format. I backed up my experience with what I could find on their website, that alludes heavily to my experience and their constant ads of their children saying horrible, antisocial things on my way home.

            If you enjoy Challenger Schools in some capacity, good for you.

      If you aren’t American or are younger, that isn’t all that surprising. To those of us who grew up in the U.S. in the 1990s or before, he’s the reason why some of us still have some empathy left in us.

        “Won’t you be my neighbor?” I still love Mr. Rogers so much, he is one of the main reasons I still hope for some form of an afterlife… I want to hug that man and say thank you a million times.

      Ha was born Presbyterian and am atheist. It’s funny though because my parents were very much “it’s cool if this isn’t your thing” when I was young. They took me to church just to show me my options, and never gave me any guilt or grief over stop going.

      Tbh that’s most Presbyterians you meet in my exp. They believe in deeds and service to the community, even outside that church, to be the most divine way to spread the word of God. Not prostilization or damnation and guilt. They’re some of the most tolerant of Christians and see the value of living around others who don’t necessarily share their beliefs.
